Virtual Events Producer

The Office of Communications is seeking a Virtual Events Producer (Events Planner) who will drive the planning process and execution for virtual events involving the Central Communications office to ensure delivery of a consistent, high-quality, and accessible event experience to all constituents of Johns Hopkins University. The Virtual Events Producer will assist with virtual event production either remotely or on campus, working with staff, faculty, and vendors as necessary to produce a successful online event. The Virtual Events Producer develops and maintains virtual event standards and best practices and works closely with colleagues to ensure major university virtual events are promoted across the university community and external audiences.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Manage virtual events production calendar and drive creation of live, recorded, and on-demand event content, such as Zoom webinars, livestreams, town halls, etc.
  • Create comprehensive event project plans, including run-of-show documentation; conduct regular checkpoints with deliverable owners, including outside technical vendors; escalate risks and challenges appropriately; and ensure events are delivered within time and monetary requirements.
  • Manage virtual event video assets and metadata on online streaming platforms, such as IBM, Vimeo, YouTube and/or other social streaming platforms, required.
  • Creating and sharing virtual event analytics reporting on a regular basis, i.e., monthly, quarterly, annually.
  • Focus on ensuring virtual event accessibility and continuous improvement and integration of accessibility technologies in JHU’s virtual event platforms.
  • Drive all event testing, quality control, and post-event review practices.
  • Act as an in-house expert on video streaming options and related technologies, including live video accessibility technology.
  • Build processes for repeatability and scalability of events activities.
  • Work requires flexible hours including occasional evenings weekends.

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • 2 years related experience organizing, producing, or assisting with online events and/or live streaming productions in a technical capacity required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree preferred. Additional education or event-related certifications may substitute for experience.
  • Supervisory or management experience.
  • 3-5 years of related experience strongly preferred.

Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Experience creating and producing virtual event programming.
  • Project management experience delivering events on time and on budget.
  • Exceptional organizational and customer service skills.
  • Exceptional written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to quickly troubleshoot technical issues, propose solutions, and maintain composure and flexibility in stressful, deadline-driven situations.
  • Resourcefulness, attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Ability to manage and organize multiple tasks effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Proven ability to make independent decisions while also collaborating across teams.
  • Strong understanding of marketing and social media strategies to drive attendance.
  • Experience with event registration platforms, e.g., Eventbrite

Technical Qualifications or Specialized Certifications:

  • Two or more years technical experience with webinar platforms, i.e., Zoom, WebEx, or similar, OR two or more years livestream production.
  • Two or more years managing live or recorded videos in either a digital asset management system or web applications such as YouTube or Facebook.
  • Working knowledge of web-based live video production platforms, I.e., Streamyard, Restream.io, or software-based applications such as OBS or Wirecast.

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
