The Department of History at Colby College invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor of Middle East/Islamic history beginning September 1, 2022.

The Department is a community of engaged teacher-scholars who teach an array of courses from surveys to specialized seminars grounded in our research. We are searching for a teacher-scholar with a focus on Middle Eastern and Islamic history. The successful candidate will teach four courses. We are particularly interested in hearing from candidates who will bring to the classroom experiences, identities, ideas, and ways of engaging that will resonate with History’s, and Colby’s, increasingly diverse student body.

Qualifications

We are searching for candidates with great potential to be innovative, effective, and inclusive teachers of history who may be willing to make use of resources made available by the Colby Museum of Art, Special Collections, and the Mule Works Innovation Lab. We will give particular weight to candidates who have successfully designed and taught their own courses. PhD preferred, but ABD will be considered.
