Lecturer - Human Development and Family Studies

The College of Education and Social Services at the University of Vermont seeks applicants for a full-time, nine-month, non-tenure-track position in the area of Human Development and Family Studies (HDFS), beginning in Fall, 2022. Candidates will be well positioned to contribute primarily to teaching in HDFS. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to engage in service and outreach activities in the college and at the university level and may also have opportunities to teach in graduate programs in the department as assigned. The Department of Leadership and Developmental Sciences is situated within the College of Education and Social Services. We do this to contribute to a more humane and just society, free from oppression, that maximizes human potential and the quality of life for all individuals, families and communities.    The Department  The Department of Leadership and Developmental Sciences practices pedagogy that is grounded in culturally responsive social justice principles of expanding access to services, promoting diversity, equity and inclusion, and examining pathways to interrupting systemic barriers to positive development and healthy relationships. At the undergraduate level, we offer a program in Human Development and Family Studies, and our CACREP Accredited master’s degree programs include School Counseling and Clinical Mental Health Counseling Programs, including a dual option.     The Community 
UVM is located in Burlington, Vermont, which is rated as one of the best small cities in the country. The greater Burlington area has an increasingly diverse population of about 125,000 and enjoys a panoramic setting on the shores of Lake Champlain, between the Green Mountains of Vermont and the Adirondack Mountains of New York State. The surrounding area provides an environment rich in cultural, civic and recreational activities. Vermont has a deep history of social activism and political participation. It offers many opportunities for collaborative partnerships in community and state-wide human service and social change organizations in multiple fields of practice, including state agencies.    Responsibilities:  The successful candidate will assume a range of responsibilities that include: 

• Teaching in the Human Development and Family Studies curriculum;  
• Engaging in advising and service to the program and department, as assigned;  
• Engaging in outreach and service activities in the college, university and community, as assigned;  
• Teaching in other DLDS programs (e.g., Counseling), as appropriate. 

Qualifications: 

• Master’s degree in Human Development and Family Sciences or a related field; doctoral degree strongly preferred;  
• Demonstrated commitment to diversity and social justice and experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse populations;  
• Evidence of effective teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level sufficient for tenure at UVM; and 
• Strong collegial, communication, and collaborative teamwork skills.
