Organic Chemistry Tenure-Track Full-Time Faculty Position 

The Department of Chemistry at Cleveland State University invites applications for a tenure-track, full-time faculty position at the level of Assistant Professor in Synthetic Organic Chemistry starting August 22, 2022. CSU is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body. CSU is striving to be a nationally recognized and student-focused public research institution that provides accessible, affordable, and Engaged Learning opportunities for all.  

Duties: The faculty member hired is expected to establish an independent, externally-funded research program; supervise graduate and undergraduate research; teach undergraduate chemistry and graduate courses in organic chemistry; enrich the research components of the clinical chemistry program; and provide departmental and university service.

Minimum Qualifications:  Ph.D. in Chemistry or related field; post-doctoral or equivalent research experience in qualifying fields; Evidence for being able to establish an independent, externally-funded research program; and the ability to teach organic chemistry at the undergraduate and graduate level.

Preferred Qualifications:  Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry or a closely related area. A record of publication in appropriate peer-reviewed journals, experience/success in obtaining grants; good communication and interpersonal skills; evidence of ability to contribute through teaching and/or service to the diversity, cultural sensitivity, and excellence of the academic community; potential to collaborate with PIs in the department, university, and community partnerships at the Cleveland Clinic/CWRU; Research in one or more of the following, or related areas: organic synthesis, chemical biology, polymer chemistry, nanomaterials, and/or computational chemistry, but not limited to these areas. Demonstrated success in obtaining extramural funding and documented teaching experience/excellence in teaching undergraduate chemistry courses and graduate courses in organic chemistry.

The Department of Chemistry offers B.S. degrees in Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Sciences, an M.S. degree in Chemistry, and a Ph.D. degree in Clinical-Bioanalytical Chemistry, which is jointly administered with the Cleveland Clinic. The Ph.D. program in Clinical Chemistry is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Clinical Chemistry. Currently, the Department of Chemistry consists of 13 full-time, research-active faculty and 4 lecturers, with many researchers at the Cleveland Clinic’s Lerner Research Institute as affiliated faculty. CSU offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience and a competitive start-up fund package. Hiring is contingent upon the maintenance of existing levels of funding from the State of Ohio.
