Position Summary: The Occupational Therapy Department was founded in 1941, with a mission of providing a professional education resulting in skilled hands-on practitioners who are client-centered and occupation-centered in their approach to practice. The department offers a professional-entry M.S. and OTD programs, as well as a post-professional M.S. program. This position will provide graduate-level teaching, service, and scholarship in the Occupational Therapy Department. Position includes on-campus and online teaching, service to the Department and University, and scholarly activities, such as presentation and/or publication.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Teaching classes offered on campus and online using skills of communication, engagement, and adaptability.
  • Provide service to the department, university, and community that demonstrates a commitment to the mission, vision, and values of Mount Mary University.
  • Supervise students
  • Advise students
  • Engage in scholarly activities that support and advance the profession, including publication and/or presentation.
  • Perform other duties, responsibilities, or special projects as assigned.

Skills and Experience:

  • Previous higher education teaching experience.
  • Documented occupational therapy expertise in the area(s) of teaching responsibility and knowledge of the content delivery method provided
  • Occupational therapy clinical practice experience. Adult physical disabilities experience is a priority.
  • Experience in distance education and learning management systems desired.
  • Strong working knowledge and understanding of established professional codes of ethics and best practices for faculty in higher education required
  • Demonstrated commitment to promoting inclusiveness and cultural competence; experience working with underrepresented students and students from at-risk backgrounds
  • Experience and understanding of current issues and developments in higher education
  • Outstanding verbal, writing, and presentation skills; must be able to communicate and interact effectively with Mount Mary students, employees, and alumnae
  • Exceptional ability to multitask and prioritize projects
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to work with diverse groups, facilitate group processes and foster collaborative decision making
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office Suite programs.

Qualifications:

  • Current occupational therapy clinical practice experience of at least three years.
  • Previous higher education teaching experience, but will consider other relevant teaching experience.
  • Occupational therapist with an earned post-professional doctoral degree. Research-based doctorate desired.
  • Wisconsin state licensure in occupational therapy or eligibility for Wisconsin licensure.

Physical Demands:

  • May be required to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must reach, bend, stoop, and lift.
  • Must sit and/or stand throughout the workday, sometimes for prolonged periods.
  • Some repetitive motion may be required.
  • Must listen carefully and speak clearly to others in person, via video conferencing, and on the telephone.
  • Extended hours in front of a computer screen may be required.

Working Conditions:

  • Office and classrooms environments with varying levels of noise throughout the day.
  • Varying workflow; sometimes stressful, with high workload during peak times of the year.
