Professor of Education, Literacy, Reading, Curriculum & Instruction

The University of Vermont’s Department of Education in The College of Education & Social Services invites applications for a full-time, tenure line faculty member at the rank of Professor in Education, Literacy, Reading or Curriculum and Instruction to join our nationally recognized and award-winning faculty. The position will start in Fall of 2022. This position may also be eligible for an endowed faculty position in Education. Research foci related to Literacy, Reading, or Curriculum and Instruction with quantitative methods desired.   We seek a nationally recognized scholar who is well-versed in the research and practices of Literacy or Reading education who also demonstrates expertise in quantitative methods and analyses. The successful candidate will have developed, or is developing a justice-centered research portfolio and will work with faculty across undergraduate and graduate programs. We are particularly interested in individuals with a history of external funding; we seek applicants with an active research agenda, a justice-centered approach to scholarship, strong teaching skills, and a record of engaged collaborative service.  

Qualifications:

• Earned doctorate in Curriculum & Instruction, Literacy, Reading, Education, or a relevant discipline;
• Expertise in quantitative research methods and analyses;
• Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and social justice;
• Record of publication appropriate for a tenured appointment at the rank of professor at the University of Vermont;
• Record of extramural funding commensurate with rank
• Evidence of successful grant writing to support research and/or advance program goals;
• Evidence of effective teaching at the undergraduate/graduate level; and
• Strong collegial, communication, and collaborative teamwork skills. 

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will assume a range of responsibilities that include:

• Maintaining an active research agenda, securing external funding, and publishing in peer-reviewed journals; 
• Teaching and advising in the department’s undergraduate and graduate (M.Ed., Ed.D., Ph.D.) programs;
• Collaborating with Department of Education faculty and staff in departmental governance, program development, scholarship, and service;
• Serving as an active member of relevant scholarly societies and/or professional associations;
• Engaging in service and outreach activities at the college, university, regional, state, national and international levels.

The Department
The Department of Education is widely recognized for its rigorous academic research, high-quality student experience, innovative teaching practices, and collegial, inclusive work environment. We offer undergraduate and graduate programs in PreK – 12 educator preparation, curriculum and instruction, special education, higher education and student affairs, educational leadership and policy studies, and interdisciplinary studies. In addition, we offer undergraduate minors in computer science education, cultural and linguistic diversity, special education, and coaching.
