Assistant/Associate Professor of Counseling

As a part of diverse community of faculty and staff who represent many faith systems and worldviews, the Department of Psychological Sciences and Counseling seeks qualified applicants for the position of full-time, tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor of Counseling specializing in Clinical Mental Health. The Assistant/Associate Professor of Counseling will promote our Catholic Franciscan mission and identity by teaching graduate level courses in counseling and specialized clinical mental health areas and related undergraduate courses within the department. This position reports to the Director of Counseling, the Chair of Department of Psychological Science and Counseling, and the Dean of Arts and Sciences.
The Department of Psychological Science and Counseling Master of Science in Counseling Program has clinical mental health and school counseling tracks. The first graduate cohort of mental health counselors was admitted in Fall 2017, and graduated in Summer 2019. The first graduate cohort of school counselor was admitted in Fall 2020, and will graduate in Summer 2022. 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Actively engage the Catholic Franciscan mission and identity of Marian University by modeling the Franciscan Sponsorship Values and honoring the legacy of the founding congregation through transformative education, unity in diversity, leadership through service, integrating faith and life, and institutional policies.
• Teach graduate level courses in counseling and specialized clinical mental health areas and related undergraduate courses within the department. Teaching load: 18 credits per academic year.
• Maintain an active program of research and/or other professional activities.
• Mentor, advise, and supervise students within the MS in Counseling Program and the PSC department.
• Actively participate in faculty meetings, departmental functions, and university service.
• Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

• Doctoral degree in counseling psychology, clinical psychology, or counselor education.
• Licensure or eligibility to pursue licensure as a licensed mental health counselor or licensed marriage and family therapist in the State of Indiana.
• Teaching experience in higher education preferred, especially teaching in a CACREP or MPCAC accredited master’s program.
• Counseling experience beyond internship preferred in one or more of the following:  addiction, marriage and family, trauma, childhood/adolescence. 
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated ability to be self-motivated, collaborative, and able to work independently with colleagues throughout the university and in the community.
• Commitment to multicultural competence, best practices in teaching, high ethical standards, diversity, and community service/engagement.
• Involvement in state, regional, and/or national professional associations.
