Assistant Professor of Psychology

The Department of Psychology at Angelo State University is inviting applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Counseling Psychology for a 9-month position beginning August 2022. The Counseling Psychology program is a growing program that emphasizes the scientist-practitioner model of training with an established Master of Science in Counseling Psychology and a Doctor of Psychology in Counseling Psychology (Psy.D.) program beginning August 2022

We are seeking applicants who show promise to teach doctoral level graduate courses in counseling psychology with an emphasis on science and empirically-supported treatments. Particularly, we are seeking applicants who have an interest in teaching assessment-based courses (e.g., psychological assessment, intellectual and achievement testing, and personality assessment). Applicants who are ABD will be considered if the degree can be completed within the first year of appointment. We also encourage applicants who are in practice and are interested in joining academia. Employment begins no later than August, 2022; review of applications begins October 31st, 2021 and will continue until the position is filled.

Responsibilities will include teaching undergraduate courses and graduate courses within the Counseling Psychology program. In addition, applicants will provide student mentorship, conduct research in areas of their expertise and interest, and provide service to the Counseling Psychology program, the department, and the university. Graduate courses are offered in the afternoon or evening times. Applicants are expected to seek licensure as a psychologist in the state of Texas within their first three years of hire, if not already licensed.

About the Department. The Psychology Department offers bachelor’s degrees in psychology as well as master’s degrees in Applied, Counseling, I-O Psychology, and Experimental Psychology. We will begin offering the Doctor of Psychology in Counseling Psychology (Psy.D.) in Fall 2022. Department faculty direct laboratories conducting research in deception, gender and relationships, social perception, neuroscience, cognition, and Industrial-Organizational Psychology.
