The Office of Admission at Wesleyan University serves as the hub of activity and point of first contact for the University for thousands of prospective students and families. The admissions team is responsible for generating, processing, and reviewing more than 13,000 first-year and transfer applications and hosts over 15,000 individual visitors on campus annually. In addition, the office promotes the university virtually and hosts admission events all over the world.

The Assistant Dean reports to an Associate Dean of Admission and, works closely with faculty, staff, current students, and alumni, participates fully in all aspects of Wesleyan’s undergraduate admission operation: recruitment, selection, and yield programs. The Assistant Dean serves as the University’s representative for all aspects of admission operation both on and off-campus.

The Senior Assistant Dean of Admission reports to an Associate Dean and participates as a key member of the admission office team. The Sr. Assistant Dean will be involved in all components of the admission program including recruitment travel, interviewing, public speaking, and evaluation of applications, in addition, to other responsibilities this dean will have primary responsibility for the management of one or more programs as assigned.
Responsibilities include:

  • Managing an admission region; developing and implementing strategic recruitment initiatives to include multicultural and diversity outreach and relationship building w/ schools, counselors, and Community Based Organizations; and participating fully in selection of first-year and transfer candidates.
  • Traveling up to 7 weeks per year, including traditional recruitment travel and professional meetings representing the university.
  • Supervising staff, students, and/or strategic projects. Managing or assisting in the management of one of the following: athletic recruitment, international admission, transfer admission, communications and social media, yield programming, data analysis and database management.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned by the Director and Dean of Admission and Financial Aid.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree and at least 3 years of experience demonstrating professional growth within a selective admission setting or the equivalent combination of experience in higher education and secondary school settings.

Excellent communication skills.

A commitment to and a demonstrated track record of success working with diverse populations and those underrepresented in higher education.

Demonstrated ability to work independently on time-sensitive projects effectively and simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.

Experience managing others in a team or project based environment.

Proven ability to exercise initiative, set priorities, and work both independently and collaboratively.

Demonstrated data-driven decision- making and familiarity with database management.

Ability to connect with students and co-workers from a diverse range of backgrounds and experiences.

Valid driver’s license, ability to travel 5-7 weeks during the year, and drive for extended periods of time in various traffic conditions.


Preferred Qualifications
BA in Liberal Arts field or experience demonstrating a personal commitment to liberal arts education.
Close identification with and understanding of the aims and benefits of a Wesleyan education.
Quantitative skills and analytic orientation.
Experience in a paperless admission operation and or/systems implementation projects.
Familiarity with Slate/Technolutions.
Fluency in a second language.
Demonstrated experience with international recruitment and/or marketing and communications
Compensation commensurate with experience.
