New Mexico Highlands University ( NMHU ) is seeking a candidate for an
Assistant or Associate Professor of Physical
Education who is committed to making a difference in the lives of college
students at an historic New Mexico University.

This position will be assigned to the main campus in Las Vegas, New Mexico. The primary responsibilities of this position are to teach lower and upper level courses, advise students, develop curriculum, and direct practicum experiences, Courses could include physical education topics/pedagogy, special populations, kinesiology, physical activity, exercise science or other departmental courses based on applicant’s educational and teaching background.

The incumbent is further expected to pursue scholarly activities and serve at the University, local, state, regional, and national levels.

Summer teaching is optional, based on personal interests and departmental needs. Duties and Responsibilities
The incumbent in this position will have responsibilities in the areas of teaching, scholarship, and service.

Faculty contractual duties include, but are not limited to:
a)Teach physical education pedagogy classes for the undergraduate and graduate tracks, with possible teaching assignments in other, related areas.
b)Hold office hours,
c)Advise students in academic degree pursuits and career development plans,
d)Direct graduate students with graduate thesis/field projects, and comprehensive exams,
e)Provide professional service to Department, College, University.
f)Write and/or build curriculum in physical education
g)Advocate physical education at local/State educational/political agencies.
h)Conduct and publish research/scholarly activities.
i)The normal fulltime teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester.
j)The candidate should be prepared to develop and teach courses online using Desire2Learn.
k)Tenure and promotion decisions follow the Collective Bargaining Agreement and require positive reviews based on performance in teaching, service, and scholarship to the Department, College, University and external community. Minimum Qualifications
Education: Applicants must have a terminal degree (doctorate in physical education or a closely-related area). ABD will be considered. Ability to teach undergraduate and graduate level courses, supervise graduate research, interest and commitment to work with diverse populations.

Experience: Successful teaching at the university level. Experience addressing and implementing matters related to diversity in an educational environment or community. Preferred Qualifications
a)Experience teaching undergraduate and graduate coursework in physical education.
b)Experience conducting professional development activities in physical education.
c)Scholarly work and/or grant‐writing in public health, health promotion, and/or health education.
d)Experience providing outreach to first generation college students and experience teaching with teaching technology, preferably Desire2Learn.
e)Experience in writing/building curriculum in physical education.
f)Experience with teaching or researching the various issues involved with teaching special populations.
g)Experience with teaching or researching the various issues of motor development.
h)Preparation (coursework)/degrees (Bachelor’s and/or Master’s) in physical education, and topics of motor behavior.
i)Experience with teaching Pre-K through 12.
j)Teaching credential or license/certificate in physical education.
k)Ability to acquire external grant funding.
l)Membership and involvement in one or more professional organizations. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of course content; ability to organize course material and deliver course content that takes into account student needs; can provide corrective feedback; has sufficient time to prepare for class and grade assignments; and ability using teaching technology preferably Bright Space.
