Job Description:

 Job Summary:

In collaboration with the Director of Student Activities, the Assistant Director provides vision, leadership and direction for a dynamic campus life program that supports intellectual, personal, and social development for all students. This position is responsible for initiating, coordinating, executing, and evaluating a full array of programs, services, and activities that engage the student body. The Assistant Director of Student Activities helps create a vibrant community for student engagement by providing advising support, training and resources for student organizations, newly registered student groups, and faculty/ staff advisors. The Assistant Director of Student Activities serves as an integral member of the Student Activities and Student Engagement staff and supports departmental/divisional initiatives.

 Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for training of student organizations in the planning and implementation of student programming throughout the year;
  • Serves as the liaison for the Conference and Events office for student organization meeting and event space;
  • Manage all clubs and organization documents via Presence, a Student Engagement Platform;
  • Serve as a resource person familiar with campus activities policies and procedures pertaining to calendar clearance, contracts, agents, budgets, and facilities. Develop and evaluate program and event guidelines, and disseminate that information to student and campus populations;
  • Support campus programs, such as, themed weeks, class days, campus traditions, Senior Week and Orientation; Coordinate and produce Welcome Week, Fall Fest Activities, Semi-Annual Involvement Fair, and Fight the Frost Develop a Club and Organization Recognition Program;
  • Assist with the coordination of Student Government Elections (Fall/Spring);
  • Asist with the development of student employee recognition and assessment programs;
  • Is responsible for advising the first- and second-year class cabinets to create ways to enhance class identity that will build a stronger school spirit;
  • Will support and collaborate with club advisors;
  • Develop and implement consistent training for clubs and organizations;
  • Supervise 1-2 student Program Assistants to assist with club and organization management; Maintain and develop the web portal page for clubs and organizations;
  • Responsible for organizing and managing publicity for activities and events;
  • Serve as the communication specialist for the department by maintaining the digital signs, social media accounts and the website regularly;
  • Supervise evening and weekend programs and activities as required or assigned;
  • Communicate in the role of an advisor, appropriate college policies, procedures, and philosophies to student organizations and assist groups in developing goals and objectives for each semester;
  • Evaluate, along with the Director, the campus climate to determine areas of focus for the office.

 Additional Functions:

  • Collaborates frequently with campus partners including but not limited to: Athletics, Residence Life, Risk Management, Buildings and Grounds, Public Safety, Conference and Event Services staff, and student organizations;
  • Performs other duties as requested or assigned;
  • Respect and maintain confidentiality, parameters of operation, professional protocols, and individual privacy.

 

 

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Student Personnel, Counseling, Higher Education Administration, or related field is required;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite;
  • Knowledge of Banner Operational System;
  • Knowledge of Prescence or other student engagement platforms.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1-3 years of experience in a student activities or related student affairs setting is preferred;
  • Demonstrated leadership, organization, management, and platform skills; an ability to oversee a wide   variety of activities; attention to detail and ability to work independently;
  • Solid experience in program development, implementation, and assessment;
  • Commitment to a diverse and multicultural program in department programs;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills;
  • Strong professional and ethical standards on which to serve as a role model to a diverse student constituency. Ability to build working relationships with students, faculty, and staff;
  • Ability to maintain flexibility and work well in a fast-paced environment, including working nights and weekends as necessary.
