Primary Purpose of Position:
The primary purpose of this position is to cover the complete range of locksmith tasks from the duplication of keys to the layout of major keying systems. This position is responsible for key coding and fitting, fabrication of keys, installation of door hardware, troubleshooting general door lock and door concerns, all of which require working with very close tolerances. The position also works in tandem with the other staff in the lock-shop including planning and overall operation of the lock-shop. This position will independently diagnose and decide when to repair or replace various locks and door hardware, layout master and sub-master keying systems, rotate all locks on a semester basis, select supplies, locks, and equipment needed for overall lock shop operation and to maintain the security.

Minimum Education/Experience:
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Optional Guidelines: Experience in the Trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The successful candidate must possess a working knowledge of techniques for keying, repairing, installing and servicing locks and related hardware; knowledge of installing and repairing electronic doors (ADA), electromagnetic locks, electronic strikes, exit devices, and card swipes; knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Microsoft Word and Excel) Applications; ability to maintain accurate records and maintain all tools and equipment within the locksmith shop; ability to work under pressure, ability to work independently with minimal supervision; ability to work independently with little or no supervision; to take initiative to see projects and assignments through to completion; to learn, interpret and analyze information to make necessary decisions; to exercise judgment and discretion in problem solving; to plan, prioritize and organize workflow; ability to work flexible schedules; excellent analytical and organizational skills along with written and oral communication skills; must be able to serve in on-call status and after hours, this includes after 5:00 pm and weekends; A valid driver’s license is required.
