We are looking for a Project Director for the Integrated Atmospheric Deposition Network (IADN).  IADN is a project funded by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to measure and evaluate organic pollutant concentrations in the atmosphere (airborne vapor and particles and precipitation) at six sites on the shores of the North American Great Lakes.  IADN’s target chemicals range from legacy pollutants, such as PCBs and organochlorine pesticides, to emerging compounds, such as brominated flame retardants and PFAS.

The candidate will be supervising 5-7 staff members, overseeing the operation of the six sampling sites, laboratory analyses and data production, QA/QC, communicating regularly with the EPA, producing reports and standard operating protocols, and participating in the analysis of the acquired data.  The candidate will also be expected to co-author peer-reviewed papers and to advance the general research goals of the project. The Project Director will be reporting to Dr. Marta Venier (IU O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs). The position is based in Bloomington, Indiana and it is expected to last for 24 months beginning in late fall of 2021, with opportunities for an additional year of support contingent on funding.

Qualifications: The minimum qualifications are a Ph.D. in environmental or analytical chemistry or environmental engineering.  A Master’s degree in similar areas will be considered for a candidate with adequate experience.  The successful candidate should have demonstrated an ability to work independently and in a large research group.  Organizational proficiency and strong oral and written communication skills are essential.  Experience in organic extraction and chemical analyses using mass spectrometry, in the analysis of persistent organic pollutants, and in data analysis is desired.

Salary: The salary is commensurate with qualifications.
