Job Description

The Department of Communication Studies, University of Missouri-Kansas City, seeks applications for a new 9-month, benefit-eligible, tenure track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Interpersonal and Public Communication beginning Fall 2022. While the position is broadly defined as professional communication, we are particularly interested in two specific sub fields: Health/Science and Public Communication/Public Relations. Our goal is to find ways to deepen the public understanding of health and science, improve public discourse about public health issues and to facilitate high-impact research activities that can help bridge the divide between researchers, healthcare professionals, and scientists, and the broader public. The Department also values research that focuses on underserved communities and populations. Candidates may come from academic disciplines such as communication or related fields, with research expertise in communication as broadly defined.

Minimum Qualifications
  • The successful candidate has a Ph.D. degree in communication or related field by the start date.
  • The successful candidate should be able to teach undergraduate core courses in the areas of public and interpersonal communication, and create new courses in areas of their research interest.
  • The successful candidate should have a promising research program, for example, publications, manuscripts in progress, conference papers, conference presentations, or other evidence of research, and a desire to conduct interdisciplinary research and secure grant funding.
  • The successful candidate should also be committed to help create a climate via teaching and research that attracts a diverse student body, serve first-generation college students, and contribute to social equality and justice.
