Lecturer or Assistant Teaching Professor in Electro-Mechanical Engineering Technology

Penn State New Kensington invites applications for a teaching faculty position (Lecturer or Assistant Teaching Professor) in Electro-Mechanical Engineering Technology to begin in Spring 2022. This is a full-time, 36-week, non-tenure-line, limited-term (multi-year) appointment. The initial appointment will be for three years and may be renewed.

The Electro-Mechanical Engineering Technology degree is a broad-based, applied engineering degree in industrial automation and robotics. The program emphasizes a breadth of knowledge in all fields of engineering technology related to typical, highly-automated manufacturing, production, or assembly plant processes, ranging from machine design and instrumentation to automated control techniques. Therefore, candidates should demonstrate an interest in joining a multidisciplinary engineering faculty team that provides applied, hands-on experiences to our students. Responsibilities will be divided between classroom instruction and the oversight of our engineering lab spaces, which include electrical, mechanical, and automation facilities. Laboratory oversight will include duties such as:
  • Ensuring compliance with safety regulations
  • Maintaining electrical and mechanical equipment and software in the labs
  • Overseeing student work within the labs
  • Preparing lab materials for other faculty courses

Instructional duties will include teaching of undergraduate lecture and laboratory courses, related to electronics and automation topics. Interest in education and training should be demonstrated in application materials. Teaching assignments may include evening classes and online/distributed instruction. Scholarship and service expectations may include participation in professional meetings/organizations, academic advising, and committee assignments.

This teaching faculty position may be filled as a Lecturer or an Assistant teaching Professor:
  • Qualifications for the rank of Lecturer include an M.S. degree in electrical or mechanical engineering, mechatronics or related disciplines
  • Qualifications for the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor include a Ph.D. in electrical or mechanical engineering, mechatronics or related disciplines
