Job Description

The Department of Race, Ethnic & Gender Studies (REGS) invites applications for two (2) tenure-track assistant professors. This multiple, cohort hire is in support of growing the emergent department and cultivating an interdisciplinary undergraduate degree program that encompasses the following areas: Black Studies, Latinx & Latin American Studies, Women’s, Gender & Sexuality Studies, and Intersectionality. We are seeking to fill two Assistant Professor openings with preference given to one candidate with substantive teaching and research in Black Studies and one candidate with substantive teaching and research in Latinx & Latin American Studies. The department, which offers minors in Black Studies, Latinx & Latin American Studies, and Women’s, Gender & Sexuality Studies, is currently developing a comprehensive, interdisciplinary undergraduate degree program in Race, Ethnic & Gender Studies that is comprised of the three areas and will foster intersectional exploration and understandings of race, ethnicity, class, gender, and sexuality. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in the new REGS Department. These courses will supplement our current degree offerings in the arts, humanities, and social sciences. Moreover, UMKC’s urban location provides excellent research opportunities across the interdisciplinary fields of study germane to the department.

Minimum Qualifications
  • A Ph.D. by December 31, 2022 in Black Studies, Latinx & Latin American Studies or a closely related field. Those who hold a doctorate degree outside of these fields must demonstrate expertise/specialization in one of these fields of study.
  • Demonstrated potential for scholarly research/publishing, pursuit of extramural funding, effective teaching, and service.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion across teaching, service, and research, as well as interest in the mentorship and support of students from historically marginalized or underrepresented communities.
Full Time/Part Time

Assistant Professor - Tenure-Track (two positions). These are 9-month, tenure-track, benefit-eligible position. The start date is August 2022.

Salary

Required Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
