Job Description

The Conservatory at the University of Missouri – Kansas City invites applications for the position of a full-time, tenure eligible, Assistant Professor of Acting and Director of Undergraduate Theatre Training beginning fall 2022. We seek a candidate who is a highly skilled collaborator and who can teach acting at many levels to primarily undergraduates and potentially graduate students. We are specifically seeking an individual who has can teach acting for film, tv and/or new media. The ideal candidate will have a record of advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in their work. Additionally, the candidate will have fluency with current modes of performance training and culturally responsive acting pedagogies, as well as experience working on projects that resonate with culturally specific communities and voices and a strong level of engagement with contemporary theatre/performance on stage, screen and in digital media.

Principal duties for the Assistant Professor of Acting include teaching, mentoring, and advising students in the acting concentrations at the undergraduate and graduate levels. This hire will supervise and mentor student projects, including senior capstone projects for stage and screen, and student actors in a range of works and contexts. This faculty member is expected to maintain or develop a national profile as a professional artist and/or scholar who can connect classroom experiences to professional practice. In addition to teaching and creative work, active participation in shared faculty governance and service within the Conservatory, and University is expected.

Minimum Qualifications

Terminal degree in theatre or equivalent professional experience. The ideal candidate will have a record of advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in their work. Additionally, the candidate will have fluency with current modes of performance training and culturally responsive acting pedagogies, as well as experience working on projects that resonate with culturally specific communities and voices and a strong level of engagement with contemporary theatre/performance on stage, screen, and in digital media.

Full Time/Part Time

This is a full time, tenure-track, benefit eligible, nine-month appointment.

The appointment starts Fall of 2022.

Salary

The minimum salary for this nine-month, tenure-track appointment is $50,000. Salaries are negotiable, competitive, and commensurate with qualifications and experience .
