Position Summary Information

Key Responsibilities
The Tutoring Coordinator will coordinate, supervise, and evaluate the overall operation of the peer tutoring program; recruit, hire, coordinate training, and evaluate tutors; develop learning outcomes and assessments for the tutoring program; develop training materials and deliver tutor training; work closely with faculty for recruitment; develop programs and activities to promote and publicize services to students; maintain payroll. This position will also include doing research on programs and structures to support overall academic resources at Juniata.

This is a temporary part-time position managing Juniata College’s Peer Tutoring Services at approximately 20 hours/week for the 21-22 academic year.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Supervise day-to-day operation of the peer tutoring program
  • Recruit, interview, hire, supervise, and evaluate peer tutors
  • Collaborate with academic departments and faculty to identify and recruit potential tutors
  • Develop learning outcomes and assessment measures for tutoring program and tutor training
  • Conduct student satisfaction surveys regarding tutorial services and support the academic success of students requesting tutoring
  • Coordinate tutor training with various offices on campus (Dean of Student’s, Center for International Education, Director of Writing, EDI )
  • Provide end-of-semester and end-of-year statistical information to Director of Digital Learning
  • Maintain all related records
  • Develop and coordinate activities to promote and publicize services
  • Meet one-on-one as needed to advise students seeking support
  • Provide other job-related duties as assigned by (supervisor)
Research Projects:
  • Research and prepare recommendations on programs and structures to support overall academic resources at Juniata
  • Research and prepare documentation on CRLA certification process for future consideration
  • Research peer and aspirant content tutoring programs, develop a recommendation for the future of content tutoring at Juniata College
  • Investigate the ways in which media production can assist in student success
Position Qualifications
Required:
  • Degree in education, educational psychology, instruction and learning, or other equivalent education and/or training
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate, develop, plan, and monitor a tutoring or similar academic support program
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, communication, and collaborative skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to recruit, hire, train, mentor, and evaluate student tutors.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, and faculty from diverse backgrounds;
  • Demonstrated ability to leverage office technology to automate, track, and assess a tutoring or similar academic support program;
  • Ability to function effectively with multiple priorities, be well-organized and demonstrate effective time management;
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment;
  • Sound judgment and discretion in working with confidential information and student records;
  • Familiarity with ADA regulations;
  • Competent, efficient and cooperative in handling routine tasks, as well as special projects/assignments.
Supervision Required/Given
This position reports to the Director of Digital Learning. Preferred Qualifications
  • 3-5 years of experience working in a learning center in higher education
  • Familiarity with CRLA certification and assessment methods
