Position Title:  Assistant Professor of Special Education/Visual Impairment

 

Responsibilities: Northern State University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in Special Education/Visual Impairment. Responsibilities include teaching both face-to-face and online undergraduate and graduate courses in a learner-centered environment, student teaching supervision, academic advisement, scholarly activity, and service to the university and community. The candidate filling this new position will assume a leadership role in guiding the growth of NSU’s new MSEd program in Special Education with a specialization in Visual Impairment.  Developing NSU’s relationship in both pedagogy and research with the South Dakota School for the Blind and Visually Impaired will also be a significant element of this faculty position.

 

Qualifications: Applicants with an earned doctorate from an accredited university in Special Education with a specialization in Visual Impairment, Low Vision, and/or Orientation and Mobility are preferred; however, ABDs who will complete their degree before the date of appointment will be considered. The ideal candidate will have P-12 teaching experience in Special Education, particularly working with visually impaired students. Recognized certification in Braille, Orientation and Mobility, and/or Assistive Technology is also desired. The candidate should be able to teach in the areas of Braille, Orientation and Mobility, and Assistive technology, as well as general P-12 special education courses.
