Position Summary:

The Department of Counseling Psychology is primarily a graduate department with an instructional program offering the master's degree (M.S.) in counseling and the doctoral degree (Ph.D.) in counseling psychology. The Department of Counseling Psychology is also a contributor to a new collaborative Health Promotion and Health Equity undergraduate major. The master's and doctoral programs provide a closely- integrated didactic experiential curriculum for the preparation of counseling professionals.

The doctoral degree, consistent with the APA's scientist-practitioner model of training, emphasizes the integration of counseling and psychological theory and practice with substantive development of research skills in the domains encompassed by counseling psychology. The department emphasizes the integration of multiculturalism, diversity, and social justice issues into counseling psychology and is committed to multiculturalism broadly- defined in teaching, research, and practice. Current department faculty have scholarly expertise in the following areas: psychotherapy process and outcome, educational and vocational development, community-based interventions, child development, and research methods with particular attention to multicultural issues (e.g., ethnic identity development and experiences, LGBTQ issues, social class, homelessness, immigrant and refugee families).

The Department of Counseling Psychology's Counseling Psychology Training Clinic (CPTC) offers sliding scale psychological services to UW-Madison students and Dane County residents. The CPTC is administered and staffed by the faculty, staff, and students in the Department and serves as one of the primary training sites for our master's and doctoral students. The clinic serves a diverse clientele for individual, couple, and group therapy services and provides direct mental health support and outreach to underrepresented students through an innovative community partnership with Provost.

Principal Duties:

The duties of the Assistant Director of the Counseling Psychology Training Clinic include clinical and practicum supervision; teaching equivalent of two courses per Fall and Spring semesters and one course Summer term, providing clinical training, serving on student examining committees, conducting process/outcome evaluation related to CPTC activities; advising graduate students, and serving on either MS Counseling and PhD Counseling Psychology training committees; serving as licensed psychologist on duty, assisting CPTC to maintain highest standards of care and training and working closely with the CPTC Director; and fostering campus and community partnerships and outreach.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

Doctorate in Counseling Psychology or related area of specialization

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

Seeking a candidate who can contribute to clinical training for students in our APA-accredited PhD program in counseling psychology and our masters program in counseling. The ideal candidate will have expertise in working with diverse populations and in clinical supervision and the ability to teach clinical training courses (e.g., doctoral and master's practicum; group counseling). Clinical research experiences and interests desired but not required.

License or Certificate:

Candidates should be currently licensed as a Psychologist, with commitment to obtain Wisconsin licensure, if hired, by September, 2023.

Additional Information:

This position is a full-time, benefits-eligible, academic-year (11-month with summer option) clinical appointment, renewable, with opportunity for extended appointments, career advancement, based on performance, university needs, and funding.
