Job Description:
The College of Human Sciences and Education at
Louisiana State University (LSU) invites applications and
nominations for the position of Director, School of Social Work.
LSU is a land-grant, sea-grant, and space-grant institution, a
Carnegie Foundation designated Doctoral/Very High Research
Activity university. With an enrollment over 34,000 students,
LSU is committed to excellence in research, teaching, and service.
LSU is the flagship university of the State of Louisiana.
Founded in 1937 and accredited by the Council on
Social Work Education (CSWE), the LSU School of Social Work offers
five degree programs: BSW; MSW, including a robust online program;
PhD in Social Work; and Child and Family Studies BS and MS
Programs. The School currently serves over 900 students within
these programs. For additional information about the different

with 44 full time faculty and staff members, the School has earned
over $100 million through grants and contracts since
1995.
Responsibilities: The Director serves
as the chief academic, fiscal, and administrative officer for the
School; organizes and maintains personnel and other resources in
the School; provides leadership and support for teaching, research,
scholarship, publishing, professional activities, and external
funding and development that promote the University's flagship
agenda; represents the School at regular meetings and other
planning sessions that have college or University-wide
implications; and develops a close, working alliance with local
agencies.
Required Qualifications: PhD in
social work or related field and competence to teach at both
undergraduate and graduate levels; commitment to the values of the
social work profession; eligibility for appointment as full
professor in social work or cognate discipline; knowledge of the
academic self-study and accreditation process; knowledge of
standards established by CSWE, National Association of Deans and
Directors of Schools of Social Work (NADD), and the Group for the
Advancement of Doctoral Education in Social Work (GADE); strong
record of scholarly research and grant activity, including
publication in refereed journals; teaching and administrative
experience at the university level, including supervision and
support of graduate programs.
Additional Qualifications Desired: Leadership experience in the following: leading faculty to develop and implement an educational vision: building consensus and sharing governance; working conjointly with other departments, schools, colleges, and universities; mentoring faculty; being an active leader in national- and international-level professional organizations; utilizing technology for communicating, providing instruction, and office management; and developing and administrating grants and other sources of external funding. The qualified individual will demonstrate an inclusive and humanistic style of leadership that exhibits courage and commitment to diversity among faculty and students, as well as have solid organizational management and administrative skills and a successful track record of working collaboratively with agencies. An offer of employment is contingent on a satisfactory pre-employment background check. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
