Job Summary

The Office of Strategic Relations and Communications encourages applications for a Software Engineer! The Software Engineer will work as part of a multi-functional product development team that includes developers, dev-ops, quality assurance, designers, and end-user support to maintain, grow and improve our service. This position will design, develop, build, improve, maintain and support application development that enables our team to provide a robust, modern web platform to all departments across the CU Boulder campus.

Strategic Relations and Communications facilitate an integrated approach to campus-wide marketing and communications to inspire greater CU Boulder engagement, affinity and support.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Programming, Development
  • Scope, build, maintain, document, support and improve the tools and technologies used by the campus web CMS.
  • Identify and assist with the implementation of appropriate solutions to identified problems and needs of the web CMS.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to web application development.

Testing, QA, and Maintenance
  • Work as a member of the team to improve the service offerings through testing, assurance, validating code, finding and fixing bugs and applying updating patches to CMS software.

  • Support includes but is not limited to fixing bugs, monitoring modules/core for updated versions, browser/system incompatibilities, and/or performance enhancements.
  • This position may also need to provide "escalated support" to our campus users, answering questions and providing guidance based on subject expertise.

What We Can Offer

The annual salary range for this position is $65,000-$81,000.

What We Require
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • A combination of education and related experience may be substituted for the degree on a year for year basis.
  • 1+ years of PHP/MySQL development experience.
  • Proficiency with Git or a similar source control system.
  • Proven knowledge of HTML, JavaScript and CSS.
  • A desire to become the team subject matter expert in one or more relevant development areas.
What You Will Need
  • The ability to work independently as well as within a team.
  • Desire to work on large, heavily used applications.
  • Experience with Drupal, WordPress or other CMS.
  • Ability to be proactive in suggesting ideas to improve the service.
  • Active interest in the current web development process and concepts.
  • A drive to improve and automate systems and processes.
What We Would Like You To Have
  • Experience with Drupal 8/9.
  • Experience with scripting languages such as Python or Bash.
  • Experience with JavaScript frameworks such as Vue.js, ReactJS or EmberJS.
  • Knowledge of object and/or reverse proxy caching tools.
  • Familiarity with Application Performance Monitoring tools.
  • Experience implementing CI/CD workflows.
