Located in Edmonton, Alberta, the University of Alberta (U of A) is one of Canada’s top teaching and research universities, with an international reputation for excellence across the humanities, sciences, creative arts, business, engineering, education, and health sciences. Ranked 113th best university in the world (2020-2021 QS Rankings), the U of A is home to nearly 40,000 students from 156 countries, over 14,000 faculty and staff, and has over 290,000 alumni worldwide. Today, nearly 800 students from more than 30 countries around the world attend the Campus Saint-Jean - a French-language multidisciplinary faculty at the U of A. With its nine undergraduate programs, two college programs (Administration and Tourism) and two master's programs, the Campus is carving an increasingly prominent place on the stage nationally and internationally. As the only French-language university-degree program west of Manitoba, the Campus is no longer considered a Franco-Albertan institution only, but an institution of the Canadian and international Francophonie.

Reporting to the Provost and Vice-President (Academic), the Dean of the Faculté is responsible for the leadership and administration of all aspects of the operations of the Faculté and Centre collégial de l’Alberta, including budget and fund development. Due to its geographically separate and linguistically distinct Campus, the Dean also facilitates and helps oversee and assess certain support services and non-academic programs. As a senior administrator of the University, the next Dean of the Campus Saint-Jean will strive to align and balance the interests of the University with the interests of the Faculté and foster an environment in which world-leading research and excellence in teaching and engaged scholarship flourish. As the face of Faculté, the Dean is a champion of curricular initiatives, research, scholarship, professional training, a liaison with the francophone community global outreach, and recruitment of high-quality faculty and student talent. To ensure academic quality and integrity, the Dean will cultivate a collaborative and cohesive environment where students, faculty and staff will thrive.

To be considered, candidates must hold a PhD and have in-depth knowledge of the university environment. They must have proven experience as a senior administrator as well as solid expertise in educational planning. A strong understanding of the political landscape around official languages in Canada and experience working in a multi-ethnic environment with linguistic minority groups are critical assets. Likewise, a demonstrated capacity of bringing life to EDI strategies and TRC calls to action will be extremely valuable. They should have a passion for quality education, proven planning and organizational skills, the ability to set and communicate a clear vision, strong interpersonal skills, a sense of initiative, high EQ, political acuity, and sound judgment. Mastery of the French language, oral and written, is essential. International experience is an asset.

The University welcomes applications from those who will contribute to the diversity of our community. All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadians and permanent residents will be given priority.
