Job Description:

Under the supervision and direction of the PAL Admission Coordinator, the incumbent is responsible for assisting with all aspects of the admission process for the Program for Advancement of Learning (PAL), a program for students with learning differences and/or ADHD.  Responsibilities include: interviewing prospective students and communicating with parents; responding to telephone and email inquiries; presenting information at small group sessions to prospective students, parents and others; processing admission materials; assisting with PAL recruiting events and conversion activities on campus; and data entry.

Essential Functions:

1. PAL Admissions Process

  • Communicate with students, parents, guidance counselors, and general public regarding PAL admissions process and requirements, and resources in PAL;
  • Assist with file maintenance including recording testing received; communicate with applicants re: incomplete applications via phone and written communication;
  • Utilize Banner and other information management systems extensively for record keeping and reports- update management systems re: status of applicant files; monitor applicant status and PAL admissions trends via system reports and forms;
  • Enter data into software database on characteristics of PAL applicants; assist in providing data for analysis of trends in PAL population characteristics based on school of origin, candidate profiles, etc;
  • Interview prospective PAL applicants in person and via video conferencing, assess candidates, meet with parents and guidance counselors as needed to describe PAL; write interview summaries;
  • Respond to PAL inquiries to families and guidance counselors re: application status and to communicate admissions process issues;
  • Process PAL applications for evaluation by PAL Admission Coordinator and PAL faculty including evaluating status of PAL supplementary application, PAL application fee, and testing;
  • Communicate regularly with Admissions about status of applicants.

2. Outreach Events

  • Attend college fairs and high school open houses on behalf of PAL;
  • Assist with the planning and organization of Guidance Counselor and other recruitment outreach events and special projects;
  • Assist with office operations, where appropriate to include data entry, telephone, and other administrative duties.

Additional Functions:

  • Respect and maintain confidentiality, parameters of operation, professional protocols, and individual privacy;
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the PAL Admission Counselor.

 

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree with one to two years of related professional work experience.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills with the ability to address sensitive issues with tact and dignity.
  • Demonstrable computing skills and efficiency utilizing complex computing applications on the systems and programs of College's choice; currently by way of example, Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to follow-up, follow-through, multi-task, set priorities and adhere to deadlines.
  • Some occasional evening, weekend and holiday work may be required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in higher education in Admissions and/or LD field is desirable.
  • Familiarity with the college search process and learning disability issues.
  • Familiarity with psychological, neuropsychological, cognitive, educational, and achievement testing desirable.
  • Experience in a college setting with proven technical abilities across a variety of complex software systems, relational databases, and web-based programs.
