The Texas Tech University School of Music is welcoming nominations and applications for a Professor of Practice in Commercial Music - Drum Set. The search will remain open until filled, with service beginning in Spring 2022. Review of applications will begin immediately. Rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Required Qualifications:

  • Professional music industry experience and at least two years of experience in teaching university music-related courses at the undergraduate equivalent or higher.
  • Proven experience in or potential to foster growth and development in the Commercial Music program, including evidence of or potential to engage in successful teaching, mentoring, and training of undergraduate and graduate students.
  • A record of superior performance and teaching ability in drum set in a variety of Commercial/Jazz settings.
  • Candidate is expected to reside in the Lubbock area and to foster active involvement in both the campus community and the community at large.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Music is preferred.
  • Superior skills and active record as a Commercial/Jazz drummer in professional settings at national/international levels.
  • Established record in teaching university courses specific to Commercial Music at the undergraduate equivalent or higher.
  • Established record of peer-reviewed creative activity that has contributed to the discipline or field of study and to the candidate’s intellectual and artistic development such as audio recordings, educational publications, or presentations at clinics and conferences.
  • Experience working with diverse student populations and first-generation students.
  • An ability to form partnerships within and outside of the university, regionally, nationally, and internationally.

Duties Include:

  • Support the Commercial Music/Jazz areas in both teaching and performing with an active record of scholarship/practice that includes community engagement and/or collaboration.
  • Teach at least one course offering in the Commercial Music area that supplements but does not overlap current offerings.
  • Teach applied drum set lessons to students in the Commercial Music/Jazz areas.
  • Collaborate with Commercial Music/Jazz faculty in performance.
  • Assist with Commercial Music/Jazz auditions.
  • Assist with a minimum of service duties that are appropriate to the position.
  • Engage in local, national, and international recruiting of exceptional students to all programs within the School of Music with a focus in Commercial/Jazz drum set.
  • Work well with colleagues within and outside the School, and in building interdisciplinary collaborations.
  • Regularly attend School of Music performances and recitals and be a visible and key member of the School of Music community.
