Position Summary

The University at Buffalo University Honors College seeks to hire an Academic Director. The UB Honors College has a proud 40-year history of providing expanded opportunities and academic and co-curricular support for the university’s high-achieving undergraduate students. The next Honors College Academic Director will build on this foundation to create a nationally recognized model of transformative and inclusive honors education at a public, research-intensive institution, serving an expanded and diverse student cohort, within the context of University goals of achieving Top 25 public university status. The Academic Director works closely with the Dean of Undergraduate Education and serves on the Undergraduate Education leadership team. Key Duties and Responsibilities:

· The Academic Director will articulate a vision and plan for a comprehensive curriculum spanning all years of the student experience – from admission to graduation – that is inclusive, transformational, and innovative, and which combines meaningful experiential learning and rigorous academic content, preparing students to be leaders in their chosen fields. The Academic Director will partner with the Administrative Director on an advising and support model that assists Honors Scholars in designing a personalized and intentional path through their UB education.

· The Director works proactively with students, staff, and affiliated faculty to enhance and maintain a welcoming, inclusive space that attracts and supports a diverse group of academically curious, motivated students, representative of all populations in New York State and drawing students from across the nation and world.

· The Director will cultivate robust engagement with a diverse group of faculty from across campus, by soliciting and coordinating faculty-in-residence; and involving faculty in student mentorship, programming, and innovative curriculum development that can be incubated and infused into the wider undergraduate education mission at UB, and disseminated nationally.

· The Director will engage fully in the life of the Honors College, participate in Honors College events and activities including admissions processes, and maintain an office and regular presence in the Honors College throughout the calendar year.

· The Director will support the teaching mission of the Honors College, by instructing one course serving Honors students each academic year.

· The Director will actively collaborate with other units in Undergraduate Education, Academic Affairs, Student Life, and across campus to further Honors Scholars success and academic enrichment. The Director will work with University Advancement, Honors College staff, and the Dean of Undergraduate Education to expand alumni connections and engage in philanthropic efforts, alumni development and donor relations, to benefit current and future Honors Scholars.

· The Director will participate in budget development and oversight with Honors College Administrative Director and Dean of Undergraduate Education, Academic Affairs and Office of the Provost staff and oversee regular assessment and continuous improvement of the Honors College operations and academic mission.

· The Director will supervise the Honors College Administrative Director who supports strategic planning, oversees Honors student advising and support, supervises other Honors staff and provides day-to-day administration of the College.
Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must hold a Ph.D or equivalent terminal degree within their academic discipline and be a current Tenured faculty member in an academic department at UB and have competencies in the following areas:

· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

· The ability to work effectively with academic leadership, faculty, and staff to advance the mission of the UB Honors College, and as it relates to UB’s mission to become a top 25 public research university.

· The demonstrated ability to work as a member of a collaborative team. The demonstrated ability to listen and build consensus. The ability to promote innovation and manage change.
Preferred Qualifications

Preference given to those who have had substantive and successful experience as an administrator, such as those who have served as a department chair or held other significant administrative roles.
