Southeastern Louisiana University invites applicants for the position of Department Head in the Department of Psychology. Applicants must have Ph.D. in Psychology or closely related field and credentials that warrant appointment at the academic rank of associate or full professor. The successful applicant should have evidence of experience in academic administration and commitment to excellence in teaching and scholarship. Preference will be to those candidates with expertise that complements the strengths of the department. Commensurate experience should be reflected in the application letter.
This twelve-month position is primarily responsible for advancing the culture of academic distinction where excellence in teaching, research, scholarship, and service is expected. The Department Head is responsible for the planning, direction, and development of the department as well as budget management. The Department Head serves as the link between the faculty and the central administration and is expected to provide leadership for curriculum development, implementation, and assessment of student learning. The Department Head is responsible for the development and enhancement of research programs, scholarly efforts, as well as strategic initiatives that focus on the recruiting/retention of a diverse and inclusive student population. Finally, the successful candidate will engage in teaching undergraduate and graduate courses and will be encouraged to maintain a research program appropriate in a department with both an undergraduate and master’s level degree program.
Southeastern Louisiana University is located in Hammond, less than 50 miles from the metropolitan centers of Baton Rouge and New Orleans. Southeastern has an undergraduate enrollment of more than 14,000. The Department of Psychology has approximately 500 undergraduate majors and 30 students in our master’s degree program.
