Directs an ongoing university program to ensure that prescribed activities are carried out in accordance with its mission and/or specified objectives. Prepares short- and long-term goals and objectives.

  1. Plans, develops and administers methods, strategies and procedures for meeting program objectives; directs and oversees the daily activities of staff members.
  2. Prepares and monitors the annual budget and ensures that expenditures are within budget allocation.
  3. Directs and coordinates personally, or through subordinate personnel, activities concerned with carrying out the objectives of the program.
  4. Directs the preparation of and reviews reports and records of activities to ensure progress is being accomplished toward specified program objectives; modifies or changes methodology as required to redirect activities and attains objectives.
  5. Analyzes trends within program areas, maintaining expert awareness of program information and change needs.
  6. Formulates, implements, and maintains appropriate policies and procedures concerning program administration.
  7. Manages and administers grant for program, including meetings, communication coordination, scholarships and other operations.
  8. May prepare or participate in the preparation of proposals to obtain grants from state and federal agencies, and private foundation sponsors.

Job Description

  1. Directs the LGBTQ Resource Center's program to ensure that initiatives, programs and education contribute to, and are supportive of the department, division and university mission; prepares short- and long-term goals and objectives.
  2. Maintain collaborative partnerships in relation to information sharing, outreach, academic support, behavioral and mental health, campus resources, leadership opportunities, and mentoring activities; specifically connecting LGBTQ students to UH resources and support programs.
  3. Maintain and enhance educational training and awareness programs for students, staff, and faculty that contribute to changing negative attitudes about the LGBTQ community and create / maintain a more inclusive environment at UH. These include but are not limited to, Cougar Ally Training and, Coming Out Monologues. Provide support and leadership programs for LGBTQ students such as speakers bureau, SAGA Squad, and discussion groups. Advocate for and educate on issues, trends, and best practices related to the UH LGBTQ community.
  4. Engage in regular assessment and inquiry of the UH community related to department initiatives, programs and education ; evaluates departmental and program effectiveness and prepare annual reports regarding activities, initiatives, programs, and outcomes.
  5. Ensures effective marketing of the LGBTQRC and its programs through social media, monthly newsletters, publications, campus postings, collateral and website.
  6. Supervise the hiring, training, and evaluation of staff and student employees; p rovide operational and administrative supervision for 2 FTE and 4-6 student employees.
  7. Develop, manage, and maintain the annual department budget; Engage in development activities such as applying for grants, mail out solicitations, and hosting fundraising events.
  8. In collaboration with the LGBTQRC Advisory Board, evaluate UH's policies and advocate for continuous improvement of policies effecting LGBTQ students, staff, and faculty.
  9. Interface with Houston’s LGBTQ community, and the UH LGBTQ Alumni Association to cultivate relationships that result in supportive resources for LGBTQ students, and to develop financial resources for the LGBTQRC.
  10. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Additional Job Posting Information/Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in Higher Education, Student Personnel, Counseling, Social Work, Education preferred
  • Three (3) to Five (5) years of experience working with LGBTQ community, preferably some experience in a college/university setting.
  • Requires broad knowledge in student growth and development while providing leadership and consultation regarding the campus LGBTQ community, policies/protocols/practices, well-being, and advocacy.
  • Experience cultivating a work culture that honors and uplifts the intersections and humanity of all identities.
  • Ability to build and sustain partnerships and collaborative relationships.
  • Knowledge and understanding of intersecting multiple identities and interlocking systems of privilege and oppression.
  • Demonstrated leadership in the development of programs and services.
  • Department is willing to subsitute education in lieu of experience.
Qualifications :

Bachelors and 3 years experience

Education: Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed. Experience: Requires a minimum of three (3) years of directly job-related experience.
