The Longwood University Foundation, Inc. is seeking a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to work with its volunteer Board of Directors and professional staff of four to manage its growing $100 million endowment and to administer scholarships and program endowments for the benefit of Longwood University, its students and programs.  Longwood, founded in 1839, is a state-supported 4-year coeducational liberal arts university of 5000 students located in beautiful Farmville, Virginia.

The CEO will work closely with Longwood’s Office of Institutional Advancement, the University’s fundraising arm, and with the University’s Vice President of Finance to coordinate the efficient stewardship of monetary and tangible donations to the University.  The incumbent will serve as the face of the Foundation to donors, scholarship recipients, faculty, staff, governing board, the greater Longwood community, and other university constituents.  Familiarity with the shared governance model of higher education as well as the ability to work with volunteer boards will be extremely beneficial to the success of the Foundation’s future CEO.

The CEO must have considerable organizational and financial acumen to handle the accounting, financial, budget, investment and audit and regulatory components necessary to operate a non-profit Foundation.  The CEO will also develop documented policies and maintain performance, investment and risk metrics.

The successful applicant must have at least five years of direct supervisory experience, exceptional oral and written communication skills and demonstrated ability to form and maintain excellent working relationships.  The CEO will be required to work independently, and with volunteer Board members and their committees and plan and coordinate their meetings.  Exceptional organizational skills will be needed to assist the Board and University in growing the Foundation’s assets and ensuring donations are stewarded according to donors’ wishes.

A bachelor’s degree in business, management, or related field, and accounting and investment management experience is required. Financial experience with nonprofit accounting desirable.  Prior experience in working with governing boards and in higher education are beneficial.  This full-time position may permit infrequent telework but must accommodate a flexible schedule in order to participate in functions that may occur outside normal business hours.

Competitive salary and benefits commensurate with experience.  Successful applicant will be subject to a credit and criminal background investigation.

To be assured of full consideration, please submit a letter of interest, resume, and contact information for three professional references by October 25, 2021, to:
