Clinic Director, Community Counseling Services

Basic Function:
Under the direction of the Dean, the Director will plan, implement, and oversee programs, clinical services and operations for the Community Counseling Clinics as well as supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff. The Director oversees the training of graduate students in MFT and PsyD programs in collaboration with program training directors and manages the hiring, and activities of 20+ clinical supervisors.

Representative Duties:
Plan, organize and direct the Community Counseling Services and operations. E

Respond to various emergency situations including child abuse, hospitalization and other emergencies as needed; prepare necessary forms and reports. E

Available for consultation and emergency response when clinics are open. E.

Oversee Community Counseling Services operations; arrange for and assure proper maintenance and security of the Clinics; coordinate inventory and order supplies as needed. E

Collaborate with the Dean and Program Directors to develop and implement programs that integrate coursework and experience for the training of graduate students E

Maintain and expand community outreach activities; serve as liaison to the community. E

Supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; interview and select employees and recommend transfers, reassignment, termination and disciplinary actions; plan, coordinate and arrange for appropriate training of subordinates. E

Analyze and review budgetary and financial data; control and authorize expenditures in accordance with established limitations. E

Assess program quality and effectiveness; create, implement, and evaluate interventions and initiatives that address identified mental health issues of client base; develop systems and processes that track client issues for program management and academic, research, and grant purposes. E

Ensure that the counseling clinics maintain compliance with current California laws and the ethics of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists and the American Psychological Association in all of its activities E

Direct the preparation and maintenance of a variety of narrative and statistical reports, records and files related to assigned activities. E

Communicate with other administrators, University personnel and contractors to coordinate activities and programs, resolve issues and conflicts and exchange information. E

Monitor and ensure the quality of clinical services conducted by graduate students, interns, and supervisor. Assign cases to students based upon student and program training needs and supervisory expertise. E

In collaboration with academic program directors and training directors, oversee and ensure quality clinical training of graduate students and their effective orientation into clinic operations. E

Ensure the quality of supervision by supervisors through participation in supervisor meetings, review supervisor evaluations and provide feedback to ensure quality training E

Communicate and collaborate with program training directors on an ongoing basis. E

Actively seek out ways to develop referrals and sources of revenue for the clinic E

Work to promote the professional development of staff, graduate students, interns, and supervisors. E

Effectively handle legal issues and requests through consultation with Dean, provost, and attorney as appropriate E

Apply and/or participate in the application for grants related to clinic operations.

Grant application process

Ability To:

Minimum Qualifications:
Any combination equivalent to: LCSW, MFT, PhD or PsyD in Counseling Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy, Social Work or a related field with three years of experience in administration in a setting that provides counseling services, including staff supervision and budget oversight;

Post-licensure experience in the provision of both direct clinical services and clinical supervision.

Experience in developing and implementing graduate student clinical training activities.

Preferred Qualifications:
5+ years of administrative experience as a clinic director or equivalent, including staff hiring, supervision, and evaluation

Doctoral degree.

Experience with grants.

Experience with program assessment and evaluation

Licenses and Other Requirements:
Licensure as an LCSW, MFT, psychologist, or equivalent.

Plan to complete California licensure required and California licensure preferred.
