Basic Function:
The School of Management in California Lutheran University invites applications for a full-time non-tenure track position of MBA Program Director. As a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI), California Lutheran University is an accredited, private, comprehensive university that engages students in critical inquiry and is dedicated to educating leaders for a global society. Cal Lutheran is Located midway between Los Angeles and Santa Barbara, our 225-acre campus is home to more than 2,800 undergraduate and 1,200 graduate students from 61 countries. The School of Management, which offers both graduate and undergraduate programs, is the largest of the professional schools at the university. Approximately half of Cal Lutheran students are international students or from underrepresented groups. Specifically, we seek someone with experience in meeting the needs of our growing LatinX student body (currently representing over 38% of all undergraduate and graduate students) and other underrepresented student groups. The MBA Program Director is the key administrator in the School of Management's (SoM) MBA Program area, consisting of the Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA), Master of Business Administration (MBA), and Master of Sciences in Management (MSM) programs. The MBA Program Director ensures high quality delivery of the MBA programs. S/he works under the direction of the Associate Dean for Graduate Studies and in close cooperation with other senior administrators at the School of Management. The MBA Program Director supervises MBA Program staff. The MBA Program Director bears the overall academic and administrative responsibility for all three academic programs mentioned above In addition, the MBA Program Director coordinates corporate outreach and alumni relation activities for the School of Management. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

Representative Duties:
Program Directors at the School of Management bear the overall academic and administrative responsibility for one or more academic programs. Program Directors are often the face of their program for potential and current students, faculty, staff, the business and non-profit community and a general audience. They have responsibilities that are both inwardly- and outwardly directed and must possess both strong analytical and inter-personal skills. In general, Program Directors’ responsibilities fall into the following areas and typically include the activities listed below. 1. Promotion and Recruitment: The Program Director…
  • Participates in School- and University-level marketing and recruitment planning.
  • Closely cooperates with the Division of Marketing and Enrollment Management.
  • Reviews applications and makes admission decisions in cooperation with and assisted by Graduate Admissions.
  • Closely coordinates activities with the School of Management’s Communication Manager.


2. Student Affairs. The Program Director…
  • Serves as major liaison with students, holds office hours for students in the program and/or meets with students upon request.
  • Advises students and provides counseling with regards to program progress, program completion, and career objectives.
  • In cooperation with the School and other Program Directors, creates extra-curricular activities / program enhancements for students.
  • Reviews and approves, as appropriate, student petitions, grade appeals, etc.
3. Faculty and Staff Affairs. The Program Director…
  • Identifies, selects, on-boards, evaluates and mentors adjunct instructors.
  • Cooperates with the Associate Dean for Graduate Studies in the identification, selection, on-boarding and mentoring of full-time faculty members.
  • Holds regular meetings with full-time and adjunct faculty members of the program.
  • Assists the Associate Dean for Graduate Studies in the evaluation and professional development of full-time faculty members.
  • Serves, when appropriate, as Chair or a member of search committees for full-time faculty positions in the program.
  • Manages staff assigned to the MBA, EMBA and MSM programs.
4. General Program Administration and Program Development. The Program Director…
  • Provides leadership for curriculum development, and develops and periodically revises the program mission. Must be familiar with graduate business coursework
  • Develops and assesses program learning outcomes in alignment with university-level and school-level learning outcomes.
  • Assures that course syllabi are current, available and compliant with relevant guidelines (including, but not limited to learning outcomes, assessment, choice of textbooks, etc.).
  • Plans, implements and participates in periodic program reviews as required by accreditation bodies. Posesses knowledge of accreditation processes and bodies.
  • Selects or assists in the selection of, trains, mentors and supervises program staff, student workers, and graduate assistants.
  • Assists in the drafting and monitoring of budgets.
  • Maintains departmental records and files, and assists in the gathering and preparation and processing of information and reports for the School.
  • Works with colleagues, other Program Directors, the Associate Dean for Graduate Studies, and the Dean in developing effective strategic plans.
5. Community and Corporate Outreach. The Program Director…
  • Identifies and builds and maintains relationships with key partners in relevant sector / industry in regards to guest lectures, internships and externships, mentorships, and placement.
  • Builds, manages, and communicates with program advisory boards.
  • Organizes and/or assists in the organization of public events related to corporate and/or public outreach.
  • Seeks out and maintains relationships with institutions that encourage employees to further their education through participation in graduate programs.
  • Represents the School, as directed, and speaks at public events.
  • Keeps relations, where appropriate, with other universities, professional societies, and accreditation agencies.
  • Utilizes social media as appropriate to maintain relationships with community and corporate partners. Has an active online presence on LinkedIn and other platforms as needed.
6. Alumni Relations. The Program Director…
  • Attends commencement and participates in the organization of any commencement-related activities.
  • Cooperates with University Advancement / Alumni Relations, in the maintenance of a database of program alumni.
  • Communicates on a regular basis with alumni of the program.
7. Others. The Program Director…
  • Participates in planning processes at both the School and university level, including strategic and operational planning (e.g., enrollment, marketing, budget planning).
  • Participates in School-level meetings (such as the Program Directors’ Meeting) and initiatives (e.g., new program development, faculty searches).
  • Coordinates activities and cooperates with the School of Management’s Director of Educational Effectiveness, particularly with regards to accreditation requirements.
  • Participates in university-wide regular and ad hoc committees and initiatives.
8. Organizational Aspects
  • Program Directors in 11-week programs serve on 11-month contracts from the beginning of the Fall term through the end of July.
  • The MBA Program Director has a two-course teaching requirement annually.

Minimum Qualifications:
● A graduate degree in business administration or a related area along with multi-year work experience is required ● Be proficient at teaching a variety of graduate management and international business courses.● Serve as the face of the department for community and corporate outreach.● Be effective at advising and mentoring diverse student bodies.● Willing and able to participate in service at the school and university levels according to institutional needs.● Be experienced and capable in engagement strategies that are effective in dealing with alumni and corporate partners.● Able to teach graduate business courses as well as review existing and proposed curriculum to maintain high standards of ACBSP accreditation.
