Jewelry Technician

Pratt Institute

Pratt Institute is seeking a Jewelry Technician with excellent technical, communication, and organizational skills to support the Department of Fine Arts' Jewelry & Fine Metals Shops. The successful candidate will supervise day-to-day shop activities, provide technical support to students and faculty and oversee equipment operation to ensure a safe and efficient working environment. Working collaboratively with faculty, and academic leadership, the Technician will participate in providing feedback for continuous improvement to improve facilities and processes. If you can demonstrate your ability to operate and oversee the use of jewelry equipment, and have organizational and good interpersonal skills, then we want to hear from you!

On a typical day you will be required to:
  • Oversee the usage and maintenance of shop equipment and ensure safety protocols are followed
  • Hire and supervise student employees; assist students with use of equipment
  • Support faculty with technical aspects of shop courses
  • Order and maintain inventory of tools and supplies, create budget proposals, submit purchase requisitions, and make recommendations for shop improvements
  • Manage lab fee budget, and distribution of materials to students
