The Hal Marcus College of Science and Engineering at The University of West Florida (UWF) seeks adjunct faculty to teach and facilitate classes for its online programs in Computer Science and Cybersecurity in the Department of Computer Science, Information Technology in the Department of Information Technology, and Data Science in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. Faculty will facilitate learning through online course instruction to students enrolled in these programs.

 Adjunct faculty report to the Chair of the respective department. Graduate courses are taught in 8-week sessions (two per semester), and undergraduate courses have 16-week sessions. Classes for Fall Semester 2021 begin October 18 and for Spring Semester 2022, January 10 and March 7. 

     The undergraduate classes average 40 students with graduate classes averaging 25 students. The undergraduate-level courses are part of the traditional programs, while the graduate-level courses are part of the UWF Online programs.

      UWF uses Canvas for its online course teaching resources. All of the course modules for these academic programs have been developed and are ready for use.

     UWF Online is approved by the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements. The voluntary agreement among member states and U.S. territories establishes comparable national standards for interstate offerings of postsecondary distance-education courses and programs. It is intended to make it easier for students to take online courses offered by postsecondary institutions based in other states.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Teaching Undergraduate-level Courses:

  • A Master’s degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate field of specialization or equivalent qualifications based on professional experience and otherwise qualified to perform assigned duties is required.
  • Experience in an online learning environment is preferred.

Teaching Graduate-level Courses:

  • A Ph.D. degree in an appropriate field of specialization from an accredited institution. 
  • Experience in an online learning environment is preferred.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF ADJUNCT FACULTY  

  • Attend orientation developed by the Department Chair.
  • Deliver course modules in a manner that ensures objectives and learning outcomes are achieved.
  • Maintain regular office hours for students to ask questions or seek assistance with coursework.
  • Complete grading of tests and other course assignments in a timely manner, providing feedback as needed.
  • Maintain and report student grades and attendance in accordance with UWF policies and procedures.

Department of Information Technology

The UWF Department of Information Technology provides students with the computing, technical, and project management skills required to become tomorrow’s IT professionals, including Database Administrators, Information Security Specialists, System Analysts and Developers, Network Engineers/Managers, and other positions.

     The IT program offers both a Master’s and Bachelor's degree in Information Technology along with minors in Information Systems Administration, Data Process and Management, and Network Administration.

Department of Computer Science

UWF offers Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Computer Science and in Cybersecurity and a Bachelor of Science in Software Design and Development. Additionally, the department offers minors and certificates. UWF has been designated as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education by the National Security Agency. The B.S. in Computer Science at UWF is accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET, https://www.abet.org.

Department of Mathematics and Statistics

UWF’s Master of Science in Data Science program seeks to develop expertise in mathematics, statistics, computer programming, data management, machine learning, and visualization to meet the growing needs of industry, not-for-profits, government agencies, and other organizations.

     The Department of Mathematics and Statistics offers a synchronous online mathematics graduate program using Zoom. By utilizing this free software, students can participate in graduate courses in real time on their personal computers. Because this is real-time instruction, each student receives personal attention just like they would if they attended the class in Pensacola.
