Lecturer in Strategic Communications

The Department of Strategic Communications at Elon University, in North Carolina, invites applications for a lecturer in Strategic Communications to start in Fall 2022. This appointment is a full-time, renewable, non-tenure track position for a highly knowledgeable, connected and creative professional in our field.

Elon faculty members are teacher-scholar-mentors who place teaching at the forefront of what they do and who also engage in professional productivity and student mentoring.  The lecturer position requires a master’s degree (preferably in communications or a related discipline) and relevant professional experience in media or strategic communications. Previous teaching experience is highly desired.

A lecturer in the School of Communications at Elon teaches seven courses a year, typically in a 3-1-3 distribution (three classes in the fall semester, one in winter term and three in the spring semester). Lecturers also advise undergraduate student majors and/or student organizations and contribute to the life of the university.

Courses the Strategic Communications Lecturer may teach include but are not limited to: Strategic Writing, Strategic Research Methods, Strategic Campaigns, Public Relations and Civic Responsibility, Advertising and Society, Media Analytics, Public Speaking, and both introductory and capstone mass communication courses. Knowledge of media analytics, digital intelligence, and data-driven decision-making processes is highly valued.

We welcome and encourage applications from members of under-represented groups. We also welcome those who would bring dimensions of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) to the university's teaching and research mission. We believe that DEI is an essential foundation for excellence.

Review of applications will begin December 1, 2021 and continue until the position is filled. Applicants must submit a cover letter that speaks to their teaching interest and/or experience and goals for teaching. They should also submit a current resume/CV and a list of at least three references. Candidates who have experience working with a diverse range of people and who can contribute to the climate of inclusivity are encouraged to identify their experiences in their cover letter.

Candidates may also submit links to their digital portfolio showcasing their professional and scholarly work. Applications should be submitted via email to stclectsearch2021@elon.edu as a single PDF file including all of the components listed above.
