Loyola University Chicago ( LUC ), College of Arts and Sciences, Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology seeks qualified candidates for an appointment as Department Chairperson at the rank of Professor or Advanced Associate Professor, beginning Fall 2022. The Department has ten full-time faculty serving 450 undergraduate majors and minors and 30 graduate students on LUC’s Lakeshore Campus. We offer an undergraduate Criminal Justice and Criminology major and minor and a Master of Arts in Criminal Justice and Criminology. “We are also part of eleven inter-disciplinary undergraduate majors and minors, including Psychology of Crime and Justice, Forensic Science, Computer Crime and Forensics, and Sociolegal Studies.” For more information about the department, please visit the department website at

The Department Chairperson position is a full-time, 12-month, tenure-track position, with a course load of one course per semester (two courses per academic year) for a research-intensive faculty member. The Department Chairperson serves in a position of strategic importance at Loyola, is accountable to the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, and is responsible for the effective and efficient administration of the department. The Department Chairperson’s responsibilities include: communicating and implementing college and university policies to the department and advocating for departmental needs to the college and university; recruiting, retaining, supervising, evaluating, and leading faculty and staff; making budgetary decisions and resource allocations; building and staffing the undergraduate and graduate schedule of classes; and ensuring that excellence is achieved in all areas of the department. Qualifications
We seek an individual with demonstrated evidence of academic administrative experience. The candidate will have a Ph.D. in Criminology/Criminal Justice or a closely related field. While specialization is open, ideal candidates will have knowledge of different fields within the department. Candidates for the position must clearly demonstrate the potential for excellence in research and teaching and have a record of distinguished scholarship, grant-funded research, and student mentorship.
