UM Campus Dining at the University of Montana invites applications for an extraordinary opportunity. We have an immediate opening for a Baker II to join our team. The Bear Claw Bakery at UM creates desserts, pastries, and a wide variety of specialty bakery products for the campus community. This position will act as a lead for student employees and report directly to the Executive Pastry Chef. This position directs and supervises all bakery students and is occasionally responsible for the functional supervision of a classified staff employee.

We are seeking a team member who has professional baking experience including pastries, decorating and volume production. This position must be have or be able to obtain management ServSafe certification and a Montana driver’s license.

Required Skills
  • Management and supervisory experience in a foodservice environment.
  • Experience with high-volume bakery production operations, equipment, and routine equipment maintenance.
  • Experience working with college-age students as employees and effectively training employees new to the workforce.
  • Experience with high-volume baking.
  • Experience and expertise in dessert preparation, cake decorating, and baking bread, rolls, and specialty breads.


Minimum Required Experience
  • High school graduation and three (3) years of directly related work experience, two (2) of which were in a high-volume bakery operation; or an equivalent combination of education and experience necessary to perform the essential functions of the job.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional management and supervisory experience in a high-volume bakery.
  • Ability to drive delivery vehicles.
  • Expert knowledge and experience with dessert preparation and cake decorating.
  • Expert knowledge and experience with baking breads, rolls, and specialty breads.

Work Schedule: Full-time, 1.0 FTE (40 Hours a week), Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, 12 months/year

Salary: $15.91/hr

Union Affiliation: FOCUS-MFPE

Probationary Period: Six months minimum
