Psychological Counselor



Department: Counseling and Psychological Services

Position Summary:
Monmouth University is seeking applications for a Psychological Counselor in the Counseling and Psychological Counseling department.

The candidate would be expected to: provide direct psychological counseling services to students; provide appropriate preliminary mental health assessment of students and referral information as needed in consultation with the Director; provide direct crisis intervention and assist the Director in the coordination of critical interventions during emergent situations on campus; collaborate with off-campus providers and agencies, as needed and directed.

Master's degree

Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills, Must be able to treat confidential and sensitive information appropriately, Basic Knowledge of MS Word 2013, Basic Knowledge of MS Excel 2013, Must be able to utilize a variety of computer software programs in order to successfully complete assigned tasks, Must be able to operate a variety of office equipment

Required Years of Experience:

Other Requirements:
Master’s degree in counseling psychology, psychology, clinical social work or a related field. Licensed or license-eligible for independent practice as a psychologist, clinical social worker or professional counselor in the State of New Jersey.

Experience in crisis intervention and clinical counseling experience with young adults. Ability to work well with college students. Knowledge of the developmental and adjustment issues relevant to population. Ability to work independently in the therapeutic relationship while balancing a strong team orientation and systems approach to treatment planning and coordination of services and intervention.

Ability to maintain precise record-keeping and confidential documentation of counseling sessions a must. Direct experience in diagnosis and assessment with DSM-IV criteria and in the treatment of clinical disorders such as depression and other mood disorders, anxiety disorders such as generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, adjustment disorders, eating disorders and some learning disorders.

Preferred Qualifications:
Ph.D. or Psy.D. in counseling psychology, psychology, clinical social work or a related field.
