JOB DESCRIPTION

The University of Indianapolis is accepting applications for a Benefits Specialist in the Human Resources Department. The Benefits Specialist provides administrative support to our employees regarding their benefit programs, ensuring that employees are able to enroll for all benefit (health, retirement, etc.) options and that they understand how their benefits work. The Specialist handles inquiries about company insurance and retirement benefits, provides administrative and data entry support, ensures that employees receive accurate benefit-related information, and follows up with health care providers and investment brokers, as well as others, on an as needed basis. The Specialist provides administrative and data entry support for Human Resources as needed and assigned

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Administers various employee benefits, such as group life, medical, dental, accident and disability insurance and retirement.
  • Coordinates and conducts new employee benefit orientations for faculty and staff.
  • Responsible for properly maintaining employees’ health and retirement deductions in the University’s payroll system, as well as third party systems (retirement plan system, benefit portal, etc.)
  • Assists employees with benefit selections and troubleshoots unique benefit situations as needed.
  • Reviews eligibility to receive immediate retirement contributions from former employers and educates in the importance of starting the retirement process.
  • Researches and resolves problems in a timely, accurate and professional manner. This includes confidential benefits counseling, communication with the Benefits Manager and staff, troubleshooting with insurance carriers, retirement plan administrators and consultants.
  • Provides retirement resource information including vendor campus visits and enrollment instructions to milestone employees. Processes salary reduction agreement contributions for weekly, bi-weekly and monthly payroll retirement deductions to TIAA-CREF.
  • Maintains IRS maximum limits on 403(b) contributions of upper level contributors.
  • Evaluates bi-weekly and monthly health savings account deductions for IRS maximum limits and submits to Controller for ACH processing.
  • Involved in project implementation as needed to increase productivity of HR processes.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 1 years experience working in Employee Benefits and/or Payroll and proficiency in use of Microsoft Excel and Google email required. Experience using HRIS/Payroll systems necessary. Ability to accurately complete basic mathematical computations required. Additional knowledge and proficiency in computer applications and presenting to small groups is helpful.
  • Pursuit of Certified Benefits Professional (CBP) or Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) credentials desired.
