The Department of English at Arizona State University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position as Assistant Professor with an anticipated start date of August 2018. We are interested in candidates with a research interest in Writing, Rhetoric and/or Literacy Studies, or related field, with a primary scholarly expertise and experience in one or more of electracy, social media studies, digital literacies, or video games. The department welcomes a secondary proficiency in online pedagogy.

 

The successful candidate will join a dynamic faculty working to advance innovative research and excellence in teaching through its work with the diverse and growing undergraduate and graduate student population at Arizona State University.

The successful candidate will be expected to conduct research in area of expertise and publish scholarship in top-tier outlets, teach Writing, Rhetoric, and/or Literacy Studies at the undergraduate and graduate (Master’s and doctorate) levels (including online), and provide service to the institution and the profession.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • D. in Composition, Rhetoric, and/or Literacy Studies, or related field, with a specialty in of electracy, social media studies, digital literacies, or video games, by time of appointment.
  • Evidence of a research agenda and potential for publications
  • Evidence of potential to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, such as Writing in Digital Spaces; Digital Rhetoric; Social Media; Online Ethnography; Digital Literacies & Social Media  

Desired Qualifications:

  • Evidence of proficiency in on-line pedagogy 
  • Evidence of ability to meet the needs of diverse student populations and/or to reach out to diverse communities 
  • Evidence of digitally managed research methods, or network based methods.
