Job Description

T he Publications Editor will plan, implement, manage, coordinate and edit digital and print communications for the offices of Philanthropy and Alumni Engagement. This includes management and production of the digital and print editions of Lift, (the magazine for alumni and friends of Embry-Riddle), the annual Philanthropy Impact Report and other high-level communications initiatives.

This full-time position is eligible to be remote for the right candidate.

Responsibilities for this leadership position include:
  • Managing the editing, design and implementation of the Lift’s digital and print publications, the annual Philanthropy Impact Report, and other high-level publications
  • Developing an editorial strategy to leverage a digital-first strategy while maintaining compelling content for print audiences
  • Directing and managing the creation and acquisition of publication content with vendors and/or internal resources
  • Tracking, assessing, and reporting of outcomes related to publications to measure their efficacy as engagement and fundraising channels
  • Identifying targeted audience segments and developing messaging to address those audiences
  • Providing or coordinating art direction for publication design, photo shoots, illustrations, supporting videos and other visual and interactive assets.
  • Leading the copyediting process, including coordinating review among appropriate parties
  • Managing correspondence with readers
  • Determining criteria for distribution/mailing, resolution of printing or mailing issues and managing the creation of inserts and/or special sections
  • Serving as the public representative of Lift at alumni and university events and the primary conduit for alumni feedback regarding alumni communications
  • Editing and proofreading other electronic and print communications related to philanthropy and alumni engagement programs, including web site content, email blasts, newsletters, impact reports and other communications as needed
  • Manage the recruitment, retention and assignment of alumni volunteers for the Eagle Writers Corps, a volunteer group of freelance writers.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, English, Journalism or related field
  • Independent self-starter with excellent supervisory, project management, oral and written communication skills
  • Experienced strategist to lead a digital-first communications program
  • Experience managing a magazine or multi-page, high-profile publication
  • Demonstrated proficiency in editing and proofreading
  • Experience utilizing desktop publishing, web design, HTML and image editing software strongly preferred
  • Experience with printing/design vendors and prepress procedures strongly preferred
