1 Full-time/Part-time Full-Time Position Type Faculty Job Summary/Basic Function
The Computer Information Systems Instructor is responsible for teaching a variety of courses, which includes but is not limited to C and C++ Programming, SQL, Java, Software/Web Development and Python. Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Computer Information Systems, or closely related field with 18 graduate semester hours in the discipline from a regionally accredited educational institution or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems or closely related field but required to obtain a Master’s degree in a computer science/programming related field with 18 graduate semester hours in the discipline from a regionally accredited educational institution within 3 years of hire date.
  • Prior teaching experience
  • A minimum of two years’ work experience in related field
  • Commitment to quality instruction in a learner-centered environment with the goal of consistently improving student success
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in teaching courses at the post secondary level, preferably in a community college setting
  • Experience with active and collaborative learning strategies
  • Current industry certifications in languages such as Java and C++, or related computing fields.
  • Online teaching certification
Months Per Year 12 Hours Worked Per Week 30 Work Schedule Dependent upon course schedule. This position will teach on campus, as well as online as needed. Supervision Exercised Supervision Received

This position may instruct at both campuses, Escanaba and Iron Mountain locations, so travel may be required.

Job Duties

Job Duty
Teach a wide range of computer information courses, which includes but is not limited to C and C++ Programming, SQL, Software/Web Development and Python. Job Duty
Facilitate student learning through the following activities:
1. Develop course syllabi that set expectations, standards, policies, and learning objectives of the course.
2. Contribute to the development and delivery of assessments of course and program learning outcomes.
3. Recognize and respond to different student learning styles and needs.
4. Develop and use supplementary learning materials, resources, and technologies.
5. Serve as an academic advisor to students per the guidelines of the Master Agreement.
6. Maintain student attendance records, grades and other required records.
7. Maintain at least the minimum number of regularly scheduled office hours per the Master Agreement in order to advise and assist students.
8. Develop and teach new courses.
9. Serve as the Computer Information Systems program lead as outlined in the Master Agreement, which includes convene an advisory committee.
10. Collaborate with other faculty in redesigning and expanding courses. Job Duty

Stay abreast of developments in the field of Computer Information Technology and teaching by reading current literature, talking with colleagues, and participating in professional development opportunities. Job Duty
Work with lab assistants, learning assistants, or student workers as needed. Job Duty
Participate in professional activities such as, but not limited to, curriculum planning, syllabus writing, examination development, textbook selection, program revision, online teaching certification, and outcome assessment. Job Duty
Work with the dean and other necessary faculty and staff to develop a course schedule that meets the needs of students and other stakeholders. Job Duty
Maintain, plan, and acquire needed equipment and supplies. Job Duty
Serve on academic or administrative committees that deal with continuous improvement, institutional policies, departmental matters, division policies, and/or academic issues. Job Duty
Communicate with students, colleagues, and other stakeholders in a professional manner through the use of telephone, email, fax, mail, and/or face-to-face communication. Job Duty
Assist the dean in recruiting, recommending the hire, and mentoring adjunct faculty. Job Duty
Participate in student recruitment, registration, and placement activities. Job Duty
Attend graduation activities and other events as required by the Master Agreement. Job Duty
Any other duties as assigned
