The Department offers a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree, with a specialization in Advanced Generalist Practice. The Department has three program options: advanced standing, two-year, and three-year. Most courses are offered in-person on the main campus with some hybrid options. Minimum Qualification 

  • A Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree or equivalent in social work or a related discipline (advanced ABD candidates will be considered, with a PhD required to be conferred by August 1, 2022)
  • A MSW from a Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) accredited program (if from an international university, candidate must submit letter of equivalency from CSWE)
  • At least two years of full-time, post-MSW practice experience
  • Evidence of ability to teach in one or more of the following curricular areas: mental health, substance use, human behavior in the social environment, social work practice with individuals and groups, and/or clinical social work practice 
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and sustain a research program that will lead to publications in peer-reviewed journals
  • Demonstrated potential for success in working cooperatively with colleagues and students on an ethnically and culturally diverse campus.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Five or more years of full-time, post-MSW clinical experience
  • Currently possess clinical licensure (Licensed Clinical Social Worker [LCSW] or equivalent)
  • Social work practice and/or research experience with Latinx populations
  • Proficiency in the Spanish language
  • Previous effective teaching experience at the graduate level (as indicated by course evaluations)
  • Demonstrated history of interprofessional collaboration and/or agency or community-based research
  • Demonstrated meaningful intercultural engagement with diverse groups in teaching, research, and service
  • Duties

    The successful candidate will design and effectively teach MSW-level courses in the social work program. Candidates are expected to engage in the following scholarly activities commensurate with rank: conduct original research, publish, seek and secure extramural funding, and engage in mentorship. All faculty members provide service to the University, community, and profession.
