We invite applications from candidates whose scholarly production falls within the more traditional format of monographs and refereed journal articles as well as those whose research is located in creative venues or in policy work. The successful candidate will be able to work across multiple disciplinary and interdisciplinary fields. We especially encourage applications from candidates whose work engages one or more of the following areas:

Race and racialization
Indigeneity and decolonization
Transnational genders and
sexualities
Performance studies
Digital studies
The successful applicant will be expected to teach courses in their area of expertise as well as to share in teaching the core undergraduate and graduate courses in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. The scholar in this position will have the opportunity to contribute to building departmental programs, including our B.A. and Ph.D. programs, the minor and certificate in LGBTQ Studies, the undergraduate minor in Black Women’s Studies (a joint program with African American Studies), and a graduate certificate in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. Applicants must have a Ph.D. or comparable terminal degree by the time of appointment.
The Harriet Tubman Department of Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies maintains a long intellectual and institutional commitment to issues of race, racialization, and social justice. We see the mentoring and training of graduate and undergraduate students of color as critical to changing the power hierarchies of the academy. As such, we challenge ourselves to build curricula and programming that are anti-racist, trans-inclusive, and non-ableist. We invite applicants to show how their ongoing research, teaching, and service address these principles of equity and representation.
Applicants should submit the following materials to https://ejobs.umd.edu/postings/87337:
- a 3-4 page letter of application describing their research experience and interests, approaches to and experience with teaching and mentoring, and community and/or professional contributions
- a current curriculum vitae

- three letters of recommendation
Questions may be sent to search committee chair Neel Ahuja at neel1@umd.edu. Additional information or materials from applicants may be requested after submission. For best consideration, please submit applications by November 1, 2021.
