Graphic Designer

We are seeking aGraphic Designer who will be responsible for thedesign of internal- and external-facing visual communications for research, medicine, and education for over 50 departments, programs, centers, and institutes within the School of Medicine, Johns Hopkins University, and throughout Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions.

Visual communications include both digital and print media, such as: infographics, iconography, social media graphics, HTML email, UI/UX, digital media assets, presentations, reports, print publications, invitations, posters, and data visualizations for presentation slides, academic publications, grant applications and reports.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Create design assets and visual communications for both digital and print media, including infographics, iconography, social media graphics, HTML email, UI/UX, digital media assets, presentations, reports, print publications, invitations, posters, and data visualizations for presentation slides, academic publications, grant applications and reports.
  • Design digital and print communications that adhere to Johns Hopkins Medicine or Johns Hopkins University brand standards and visual style.
  • Find new, creative ways to distill complex data and information into visual representations.
  • Meet with internal clients to determine project scope, audience, and final deliverables.
  • Manage project from initial concept to final deliverables, including estimating, planning, developing project timelines, and time-tracking to assure that projects are delivered on-time and on-budget.
  • Work with printers and other outside vendors to assure quality control through the various stages of printing production. Prepare printer files for output, making sure all files are trouble-free and complete. Provide printers with all printing specifications.
  • Initiate and follow through on division paperwork and procedures. Monitor and record accurate billing, time, materials and vendor costs. Archive and organize all job files.
  • Maintain and advance skills in the use of graphic design software, keep abreast of technological and stylistic developments in the graphic design fields for professional growth. Professional growth and accommodation to rapidly changing graphic design technologies are the responsibility of the individual.

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design, or related field.
  • 2 years of experience in an in-house creative services department, or agency.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, XD, Premier, After Effects, Spark).
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams).
  • Experience with project management systems, such as Basecamp, Freedcamp, Microsoft Teams.
  • Strong graphic design portfolio that demonstrates excellent design, illustration and typography skills.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, while being a process-oriented self-starter.
  • Working knowledge of current website design trends and techniques, email marketing, and social media best practices.
  • Knowledge of the printing process, preparation of print files, and the ability to work with printers to assure quality of printed jobs.
  • Strong time management and organization skills, deadline and detail-oriented; dependable with a great attitude.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to strategically and effectively present creative work and reasoning with stakeholders.
  • Ability to learn and understand complex issues quickly and recommend and apply creativity and problem-solving skills to design solutions.
  • Ability to take and apply feedback and creative direction from stakeholders and internal team members in service of advancing their work.
  • Strong command of current design trends with a curiosity for new techniques and fresh approaches.
  • Keep abreast of changing technological developments in the graphic design and communications field.

This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
