Human Resources Specialist

The Human Resources Specialist is a key contributor to the HR team. The Specialist is the first point of contact for new applicants as well as employees and visitors doing business in the HR Office. This position interfaces with all departments across the University; as they have positions to post and searches to conduct, ultimately hiring new staff and faculty. As a result, a customer service orientation is essential for this role.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Engage with Managers across the University with the hiring of new employees from start to finish
  • Update the internal and external website for the Human Resources Department including the posting of all open positions for staff and faculty in the University
  • Manage employment vendors and external job positing
  • Conduct background checks on all new hires
  • Assist with the rollout and progress of Annual Reviews
  • Process all MA Unemployment claims that come to the University and is the point of contact with our Unemployment Vendor
  • Manage HRIS Paycom - add new hires, assign required IT & sexual harassment training; add new supervisors; track and update accounts for promotions/demotions; coordinate training and respond to questions; manage position management; maintain general organization (supervisor management, time off management, supervisor view, reporting structure updates); terminate access when appropriate
  • Manage all aspects of Student Employment: including tiering new roles, Federal Work Study review, update pay rates & tax profile, monitor school year and summer changes
  • Assist the Manager of Benefits and Wellness with the campus-wide wellness initiative called Healthy You. This involves working closely with the Tufts Health Plan, the EAP, and on-campus Health Initiatives.
  • Monitor and respond to all incoming inquires in the Human Resources Department, in person, over the phone and through email.
  • Update the internal and external website for the Human Resources Department
  • Complete employment verifications for current and previous employees
  • Coordinate and complete exit interviews
  • Coordinate changes with the Finance Department including biweekly payroll meetings with Payroll and updates to Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable
  • Manage the Tuition Waiver process, respond to questions and coordinate policy updates for employees, dependents, and Village employees and dependents.
  • Liaise with the Lasell Village Human Resources Department
  • Organize employee file management for student employees, staff, faculty, and adjuncts
  • Mange orders for employee life events
  • Other duties as assigned

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED BY THE JOB:

Education level: Bachelor's degree or relevant life experience

Skills/Requirements of the Job:
  • Minimum of 3-4 years' experience in Human Resources.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and confidentiality is critical.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple duties in a busy environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft office suite.
  • Possess a strong desire to enhance the credibility of Human Resources and build strong partnerships within the Lasell community.
