Assistant Director of Student Financial Planning

The Assistant Director of Student Financial Planning is responsible for assisting in the administration and coordination of the department, managing the daily operations of the office including hiring, training and supervising the student employment staff, the processing of all incoming and outgoing communication, electronic and hard copy, review and awarding of a caseload of student aid files, verification processes, serving as a departmental liaison to a variety of offices including athletics, study abroad, student activities, and counseling students and their families. In doing so, the assistant director exercises independent, professional judgment to carry out Lasell University's mission and policy to recruit and retain students and deliver the services of the department. The independent decisions made by the assistant director commit this office to a specific course of action, carry fiduciary responsibility and accountability for managing financial aid and verification processes and determine whether or not a student receives financial assistance to attend or continue attending the university. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Counsel students and families about available financial aid, scholarships and general student eligibility criteria
  • Responsible for verification, awarding and quality control functions for all student populations
  • Package and modify financial aid for undergraduate and graduate students
  • Manage state grant programs
  • Process and disburse Federal, state and institutional aid along with private loans
  • Train, manage and supervise student employees
  • Assist in the development and implementation of office policies and procedures for awarding financial aid based on federal, state and institutional guidelines
  • Work closely with members of the Undergraduate and Graduate Admissions Offices, Student Accounts Office and Registrar's Office
  • Represent the Office of Student Financial Planning and Lasell University at Open Houses, Orientations and various program information meetings
  • Monitor student's satisfactory academic progress, determining students continued eligibility for receipt of aid, making decisions and using professional judgement beyond routine policies and procedures
  • Assist the coordination and development, implementation, integration and maintenance of automated student outreach efforts with other campus departments; develop, update and present financial aid information through the use of brochures, literature, website, and workshops directed toward students, parents, and community groups; maintain and update Student Financial Services office information resource library
  • Attend and participate in professional organizations, seminars and /or courses to maintain current information concerning regulations and services, best practices, provide for financial aid development and to represent the university at conferences and other events
  • The Assistant Director is expected to be able to clearly and effectively communicate with all constituencies, students, parents, faculty, staff etc. both verbally as well as in written format via electronic and hard copy means
  • Other duties as assigned

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED BY THE JOB:
  • Bachelor's degree required, Master's preferred.

Computer skills:
  • Able to use Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel), familiarity and able to use programs such as PowerFAIDS, ELM, COD, and PowerCAMPUS.

Other Requirements of the Job:
  • Minimum 1 year of experience working in a similar capacity within higher education
  • Minimum 1 year of progressive financial aid experience
  • Commitment to the highest level of customer service
  • Attention to detail, effective technical, written and oral communication skills
  • An enthusiasm for working in a team-oriented environment but also able to work independently
  • Occasional weekend work required
  • Strong organizational skills
