The Cognitive and Behavioral Science Department at Washington and Lee University (https://my.wlu.edu/cognitive-and-behavioral-science) seeks to fill a new tenure track Assistant Professor position, beginning July 1, 2022, to serve our growing major. This position carries a 5.5-course teaching load distributed over Fall and Winter terms (12 weeks each) and the university’s signature 4-week spring term. Competitive applicants will demonstrate commitments to undergraduate instruction, engagement of undergraduates in research, and diversity, equity, and inclusion.  We seek candidates with strong computational skills whose teaching responsibilities will include statistics, one of our introductory courses, courses in their area of expertise, and courses in the Data Science minor (https://www.wlu.edu/academics/areas-of-study/data-science/).  The area of expertise is open, but preference will be given to candidates who broaden the disciplinary scope of our department’s faculty.  We welcome candidates interested in joining a community-oriented department that values teaching innovation and mentoring students in their intellectual, personal, and professional development.

To achieve our mission as a liberal arts college, we strive to foster an inclusive campus community, which recognizes the value of all persons regardless of identity. Our department is committed to preparing our students for engaged citizenship by creating an educational environment that is rich with cultural, social, and intellectual diversity. In keeping with the University Strategic Plan, we welcome applications from underrepresented minority candidates and members of other communities that are traditionally underrepresented in academia.

The university requires employees to become fully vaccinated for COVID-19 and new employees must provide proof of at least their first shot prior to the first day of employment. Individuals may seek a medical or a religious exemption to the vaccination requirement.

Qualifications

PhD required by time of appointment.

Application Instructions

Applicants should provide: 1) cover letter, 2) current CV, 3) three letters of recommendation, 4) representative reprints, 5) statement of teaching philosophy and evidence of teaching effectiveness, 6) description of research plans, including how undergraduates will be involved, and 7) statement of diversity and inclusiveness.

Review of applications begins October 13, 2021. Submit applications through Interfolio: http://apply.interfolio.com/95054.
