James Madison University invites applications and nominations for the position of Director, Center for Economic Education (https://www.jmu.edu/cob/centers/center-for-economic-education/index.shtml). This job includes appointment to the Department of Economics faculty with the rank of Lecturer. Responsibilities include teaching a two-course load per semester in the Department of Economics and leading the research, outreach and service missions of the Center. The Center’s overall mission is “to promote economic literacy in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia,” and it accomplishes this mission through a variety of programs. The Center’s outreach program is a sponsored program of Your Economic Success (YES), an independent 501©(3) that funds the salary and benefits of an associate director for program in the Center, charged with delivering workshops and other professional development opportunities to local school systems.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

Specific duties of the Director include:

  • Serving as an instructional faculty member in the Department of Economics, typically teaching two large sections of Principles of Economics per semester (60-80 students per section)
  • Supervising the outreach programs of the Center and relationships with participating local school systems
  • Conducting a program of publication in economic education, to include lesson plans and other economic education-related materials
  • Maintaining professional qualification as required for AACSB International accreditation by the College of Business
  • Maintaining a good relationship with local economic education constituencies, including particularly the Board of Your Economic Success (YES)
  • Directing traditional media, social media and web-based efforts to keep the Center’s program publicly visible
  • Reporting as required to the College of Business, James Madison University and YES
  • Seeking and administering grant funding to support Center operations

 

Qualifications

This is a Renewable Term Agreement (RTA) position and is not tenure-eligible. Requirements include a masters degree in economics or a related field. Experience delivering continuing education to teachers and experience in teaching in K-12 schools and originating economic education classroom materials is desirable.
