JOB DESCRIPTION:

Berry College is seeking a new colleague (tenure-track Assistant Professor) in Applied Mathematics to play an integral role in teaching and mentoring students. The Mathematics Department at Berry College is a department that is known for innovative pedagogy, collaborative projects and a successful candidate will be supported in applying for Project NExT or other professional development programs. The candidate should engage in research activities that involve undergraduate students and/or can take advantage of interdisciplinary collaborations with the newly developed computer science and data science programs, other colleagues in the natural sciences, or other disciplines outside the school.

Duties will include teaching core courses in the mathematics curriculum (such as calculus, applied calculus, linear algebra, differential equations, and probability and statistics) as well as electives in the candidate's area of interest. The ideal candidate will demonstrate aptitude and enthusiasm for teaching in a liberal arts environment, an interest in active learning pedagogy and student engagement, and a commitment to fostering an inclusive learning environment that attracts and sustains a diverse population of students, and a desire to contribute to the culture of the department. In addition to teaching, faculty are required to conduct and publish original research in applied mathematics areas (e.g. numerical analysis, probability, data science, mathematical biology). Candidates are also expected to be involved in service activities and to be engaged in the activities and life of the department and the college.

 


REQUIREMENTS:

The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics or Computational Mathematics or closely related field and a commitment to excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level. Applicants who are ABD should include documentation of that the requirements for the degree will be completed by August 2022.
