POSITION: An instructional academic staff position is available in the Department of Geography and Anthropology with an emphasis in Physical Geography and a specialization in Climate Science.  The position is for the Spring 2022 semester and 2022‑2023 academic year with a starting date of January 6, 2022. The official title is in the Visiting Assistant Professor title series. This is a three-semester appointment with salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A Ph.D. degree in Geography or a related discipline, with an emphasis in Physical Geography and scholarly specialization in climate science, is required from a regionally accredited institution. Specific areas of specialization may include, but are not limited to, climatology and its various subfields, biogeography, soil science, and cryospheric science.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
+ engaged in pursuits that better understand the Earth’s climate system and, especially, how human activities transform it

+ passion for environmental justice and integrating EDI (equity, diversity, and inclusivity) topics into curricular activities

+ experience in research methods conducted in the lab and in the field

+ able to lead inclusive and student-focused field experiences

+ expertise in geospatial techniques and ability to integrate them into curricular activities

+ have a demonstrated record of teaching excellence

DUTIES: The successful candidate will teach the equivalent of 12-15 credits per semester of introductory physical and environmental geography courses as well as courses in the candidate’s area of expertise (e.g., Climatology, Weather and Society, Biogeography)

THE UNIT: The Department of Geography and Anthropology consists of 11 full-time and 2 part-time academic staff, a geospatial technology facilitator, and an academic assistant. The department has about 120 geography majors, offers comprehensive degrees in environmental geography, transnational geography, and geospatial analysis and technology, and serves students from across the university through engaging courses in the university’s Liberal Education core. The successful candidate will join a vibrant and well-supported geography department with a dynamic and integrated curriculum and actively engage the university and community in environmental sustainability and problem solving.
